Overview

Barbados, 1648. The lush and deadly Caribbean paradise, domain of rebels and freeholders, of brigands, bawds and buccaneers.

CARIBBEE is the untold story of the first American revolution, as English colonists pen a Declaration of Defiance gainst Parliament and fight a full-scale war for freedom against an English fleet -- with cannon, militia, and many lives lost -- over a century before 1776.

An assured, literate saga, the novel brims with the rough and tumble characters who populated the early American colonies.

When I downloaded this book, it was the entire book (421 pages). Character building was well done and the storyline was kinda different, but interesting for a history buff like me. It deals with the English Civil War from the perspective of the tobacco/sugarcane plantations in Barbados. My only complaint is that the font size changes throughout the book. For example, on one page, the font goes from very large, to extra small, then to medium, then back to very large.

Excellent historical fiction, author did a lot of research for this book. Very well written and a usual great Thomas Hoover book. The days of early Americas colonization and the buccaneers comes to life and gives great insight into how life was lived in the Caribbean prior to the American Revolution.

This book bored me to tears! This is the best treatment for insomnia since Ambien. I'm sure it is excellent & full of history but it was so poorly written I couldn't do it. The font changes were horrible and made the attempt to plod through it not worth the effort. That was probably the final blow to this bilious pile of words. Don't waste your time.

So not feeling this book right now. I was expecting two separate stories and the second book does not start with chapter one. The second book starts with chapter eight! So deleting this book right now. Im glad it was free.

My husband LOVED this book...I'm struggling. I am loving the culture and exposure to the early settlement struggles in the Caribbean. Some of the characters are very likable and fun. I wish the story moved a bit faster. However, like I said, my husband devoured it and thought it was a great book.

Although "American history is my very favorite era, I'd never heard of this earlier period. This book was effective in relating these important historical aspects in an exciting and clear manner. A good read and actually, beyond my expectations.

Interesting subject and time in history. Found it got a bit too esoteric for my personal tastes.

There is a great story buried in this wordy book! The author delved into useless drivel instead of developing the characters and the story around historical events. Every time it got interesting it nose dived into repetitious nonsense. Edit this book!

Thomas Hoover is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I like historical fiction and this one based on actual historical events kept me interested and entertained. I'm only sorry that it ended so quickly.

I thought it was a great well written based on some factual happenings. Of course the author took liberal license with the characters. A full sized book.
