I enjoyed a couple of the stories a lot and a couple not so well. He is very hard on animals and that upset me but it was written in the early 1900s and things were different then. About 315 pages long with a bit of violence and of courae some supernatural stuff. I was impressed that he was able to make something as low key as a door slamming and blankets on the floor scary.

Carncki: Hodgson's physic detective is one of the best. If you're a fan of the old school of writing, and long to find a good book to curl up to the fire on a cold winters night, this book is IT! The book is a veritable magic carpet ride to the wierd and the unknown.

The author had some interesting ideas, but his presentation of them was mediocre at best. For instance, he refers to certain arcane rituals, with names that include two or three of the same vowels together. This is annoying an shows a lack of imagination or effort. I found the book mildly amusing, but not something I am likely to read again.
