Overview

Caroline Lovelace stared at her callused hands. Once, they'd been soft and covered in white gloves. The War of Northern Aggression had taken everything from her. With few good men left and an abundance of starving widows, Richmond, Virginia, had lost its appeal. After her daddy died, she answered an ad to be a mail order bride. She waved goodbye to her beloved homeland and boarded a train for the wilds of Colorado to Hickory Stick. Apparently, the twig town was named by miners digging for gold. No more starving had sounded too good to pass up. Soon, she would be the bride of Mr. Thomas J. Connors.

Until the woman sitting across from her overhears Caroline mention the man's name. Seems Julia Brooks also has letters from the same man. And think of their surprise when they meet Sarah Graham from New York City who is also on her way to Hickory Stick to meet the now infamous Thomas J. Connors.

The story of how three females become friends and their quest of being mail ordered brides. Caroline, Julia and Sarah become friends and in reading the book, the reader is drawn into their story... knowing their past...and cheering them on to their future. There is some mystery of who killed Sally Mae...a character that is dead and unknown to the three friends...the killer always leave behind a red feather. Overall, good story. Caroline is the first to marry and out of the three, Caroline and Julia were my favorites. HEA, approximately 96 pages with a brief introduction about Julia and the other books by the author. ***vrnb***

Good read, wish it had been longer, and the sequels on Barnes and Noble.

Was enjoying this book. Story kept me reading, but then boom! It just ended! Not a complete book, yes there was a bride, but story was not completed. Very disappointing, like reading it for nothing. Did not find out who attacker was either. Sorry, this is why only 3 stars. Incomplete!

I feel in love with the three brides: Carol, Julia, and Sara. Good start to the seris. I can not wait to read about Julia and Sara. There is a side story that I wish Patricia had developed more. This book had the potiental to be a full novel about the lives of the three women. It was a good starting point. Could have developed the women friendship and the connect between Thomas.

I thought this book was a good sweet read. The premise was unique and the writing flowed smoothly. I liked how even though all the women were going to the same place and for the same man that they stuck together despite their differences or where they came from. You could see how real the characters were with their interactions not only with the men but with themselves. Women can be catty behind the backs of other women especially when they think they are being wronged. I liked the fact that it wasn’t instant meet the man and get married. It shows that a love can be instant but grow even when you fight against the inevitable. I thought the coming together of Caroline and Thomas was done great. I thought the ending was a little rushed and could have been drawn out a little more however this doesn’t take away from the story at all. I can’t wait to read more from this author and see what happens with the rest of the girls.

Thomas sent for two brides one for himself and his brother Jackson. Trouble was three women showed up. After meetings and some dances to meet all the men, Thomas was hurt by grizzly bear. Caroline took care of him sewed his leg up, and they both felt the connection to each other. Sarah is angry with Caroline because she wanted Thomas, but he told her he wanted to marry Caroline, when Sarah told Thomas she wanted him. Well Caroline and Thomas are married and Sarah will have to find someone else and get over it.
