    Required reading for the mechanically-inclined person!

    Carroll Smith shares his real-world experience with the reader. His ultra-clear and often humorous writing style makes the principles of science and design understandable to the layman. Since Smith worked on racing vehicles -- an extremely demanding environment -- his techniques for, and understanding of what makes a reliable and safe vehicle are of the highest standard and well proven. These techniques are applicable for virtually any mechanical device across all ranges of complexity. The reader cannot help but become more aware of the elegance and thought put into the design and manufacture of machines. If you work on machines, you will become a better mechanic. If you build machines, you will become a better designer. It's that good!
