Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathie M. Josephs
This book has your favorite Disney Pixar's The World of Cars characters. In case you are not familiar with these characters, they are all talking cars with feelings, friends, and challenges. The story begins with a race that Chick Hicks and Lightning McQueen both want to win. Lightning wins and that causes some tension between the two of them. After the race, Lightning agrees to organize a Radiator Springs rally race to raise money for a camp for kids with special needs. This is his favorite charity and wants it to be a success. More tension occurs when Lighting's old rivals do not seem to be enthusiastic or particularly charitable. Chick Hicks learns that there is a new race where some cars are not going to be allowed to attend. The reader learns that sometimes things just do not turn out the way they should. Different cars look back on some of the decisions that they made and realize what they should and could have done. The illustrations are great, the storyline is very believable, and the lessons learned are thought-provoking. Many words of wisdom are used. My favorite is, "the only way to face the future is to embrace the past." At the end of the book are previews of other books called: Cars: The Rookies, Cars: Radiator Springs, Hero Squad: Ultraheroes, The Incredibles: Family Matters, and Toy Story: The Return of Buzz Lightyear.
