Raymond Carver was born in Clatskanie, Oregon, in 1938. One of the great American writers and poets of the late twentieth century, his major collections include What We Talk About When We Talk About Love, Cathedral, and Elephant. He passed away in 1988.
Ann Beattie has been included in four O. Henry Award Collections and in
John Updike’s The Best American Short Stories of the Century. In 2000,
she received the PEN/Malamud Award for achievement in the short story form. In 2005, she received the Rea Award for the Short Story. She and her husband, Lincoln Perry, live in Key West, Florida, and
Charlottesville, Virginia, where she is Edgar Allan Poe Professor of
Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Virginia.
Bob Adelman is a well-known and respected photo-documentarian and book producer. His photographs have been in collections at the Museum of Modern Art and he has won the Guggenheim Fellowship, the National Endowment for the Arts Grant, and many other awards. He lives in Miami, Florida.
