Overview

The Collins sisters have secrets.

United by a tragic occurrence in their youth, the three women, now well into adulthood, struggle to find a sense of balance, both with one another, and within themselves. Each, however, carries the weight of an enormous personal burden - all different, unknown and hidden from the other two - which affects all of their lives in ways none of them have yet begun to realize.

When tragedy threatens to strike a second time, the three sisters must find a way to face their demons and learn that their greatest strength lies in their love for one another, before the tenuous fabric of their family is torn apart forever.

Meet the Author

Sue Maynard was born and raised in the rural Canadian village of Creemore, ON (yes, like the beer), but currently hangs her hat in the much bigger metropolis of Mordor...er...Toronto. She is a proud Browncoat, a horror geek girl, and an overall sci fi nerd. In addition to writing, Sue is a total freak for movies, books, video games, comicons, llamas, paperdolls, shiny things, Coke Zero, and her cat.

Carving the Light is Sue's first novel, originally written for the 2009 NaNoWriMo challenge, which marked both her first year as a NaNo participant, and her first recorded 'win'. It also holds the dubious distinction of being the first project of this magnitude that Sue has ever managed to actually complete, as she has not always been the biggest fan of finishing what she starts. Sue has, however, been known to step into a room and immediately map out her escape plan in the case of a zombie attack.

So maybe she's just been conserving her energy for that.

Carving the light is one those wonderful stories I'm driven to read in one sitting. It's a tale of strength and healing through love and acceptance, and the bonds formed between four ordinary yet inspiring women. I well and truly soaked my handkerchief in the reading of it, but there are many smiles and chuckles contained therein as well. No sooner had I finished reading it than I started over again, and that to me is the sure sign of an engaging story. 10/10 to Ms Maynard. I very much look forward to her next offering.
