    Good but

When I was much younger, I enjoyed these books very much. They are well written and entertaining, and the writer has a dry and engaging wit. But the older I get, the less patience I have with the typical protagonists of the "golden age." (Agatha Christie was often guilty of this literary crime.) The " spirited, spunky young girl" is now quite evidently an ignorant twerp, living merrily off unearned income with no education, no talent, and a ridiculously high opinion of herself; concommitantly, her "manly young man" is not much lesss inorant and self-important, and an overbearing boor to boot. So a littlef of these types of characters go a long way. I had planned to reread the entire series, but I just can't face another idiotic Hikary Carew.

Miss Silver herself is a delight. Unfortunately,we see very little of her and way too much of Hilary and Henry in this book.

    Flowernose

Exhausted, Flowernose chewed up the rare herb, tormentil, into a pulp and spread it onto the cats' (I'm so tired.... sorry I'm forgetting names...) bites to draw out poison and infection. After, she cleaned out the wound just in case with damp moss, and smeared marigold on to prevent and stop infection.

    Mouse

Gentle pawsteps sound as Mouse comes padding into the medicine den. About to collapse under the weight of the golden cat on top of her. By now the poison in her bites were taking a negative effect, though they weren't fatal. Mouse sinks into a nest near Lilywolf and Velvetstar, letting Goldenstripe rest next to her. She was sure he wasn't alive and fever was making her lightheaded. <br> Wolfheart traveled the prairie of Starclan, looking for Velvetstar. The grey shecat has been watching her daughter amd her family closely, and the ongoing problems always worried her. Catching sight of the Horseclan leader, Wolfheart runs forward and is at her side padding along. "Common, you haven't much time! This way..." the grey warrior leads the way with might she hadn't possessed in a long time. She leads Velvetstar to the pool that marked the boundry between Starclan and the rest of the world. "Be safe. I don't like to worry you, but your time as leaders is coming to end sooner than you may think..."
