Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Meredith Kiger
Number 33 in a long series of "Hank the Cowdog" books, this one finds Hank doing the talking as he recounts the time that he and his dog friend Drover were in the middle of the action down on the ranch. You see, the owners, Sally May and Loper, were about to depart on a short vacation when their youngin, Alfred, comes down with the measles. The resident cowhand, Slim, offers to care for Alfred for the few days that Sally and Loper will be gone. With trepidation, they agree. Well, the action takes a turn for the worse almost as soon as they reach the hard road. Slim comes down with the measles, then a snowstorm hits, and well, it just goes down hill from there. With Hank and Drover as accomplices, they all manage to turn everything right. The doggy dialogue is humorous and the story suspenseful. Black and white drawings accompany the down-home tale, which must be appealing, being number 33 after all.

It's really a funny book. It has a wonderful setting when Loper and Sally May go for a trip leaving Slim Chance in charge of their son, who happens to have the measles. The stage is set for trouble and Hank and Drover are right in the middle of it. It's worth the money and worth the time. Its a book that you won't want to put down until it's finished!

This book would be great for kids and parents reading to little kids. This series is about a talking family dog being helpful when the family's son gets the chicken pox or measles. The family goes to a family reunion, and leaves him with the dad's brother. When they get there, the mom still worries about her son. Do you think that the dog, Hank would help with the boy? To find out, read this book.
