Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Joyce Rice
Once again, brother and sister Pete and Penny Pizzarelli are on the search for clues to a mystery. Pete and Penny's parents own a pizza restaurant and they all live in the apartment above the restaurant. When they are out of school, Pete and Penny help out at the restaurant, but when the circus comes to town, their focus changes. Pete and Penny meet Simon and Cindy, whose father owns the circus. The kids learn that the circus is in danger of closing because of financial problems and Simon and Cindy believe that someone is stealing from the circus. Pete and Penny, who have solved mysteries before in previous stories, agree to help find out what is happening to the circus' profits. They are joined by Claude the monkey who delivers coded messages from Simon and Cindy to Pete and Penny. When the Pizzarelli's solve the puzzle and are able to gain access to the safe, Claude the monkey is the one who ends up with all the cash and a high-wire act. This is a delightful story of friendship and family relationships with a touch of mystery and deceit added in. At each turn of events, the kids must solve a riddle or a puzzle in order to proceed with the adventure. The puzzles are included in the text for the reader to solve. This is the fourth title in the "Pete and Penny's Pizza Puzzles" series and is an excellent choice for a classroom math curriculum resource. The magnetic spoon trick that introduces the story is also included at the back of the book for young readers. Reviewer: Joyce Rice
