Overview

This is an exceptional book. In the most compelling and comprehensive account of this trial, the authors go below the surface to explore what really happened to Caylee. Wendy Murphy JD gives us a gripping analysis of the trial that captured a nation. Filled with facts that were never discussed at trial, this new book raises important questions about evidence the jurors never heard, and which has been hidden from the public.

With a century of combined experience in child advocacy law, psychiatry, psychology, and grief counseling, the authors analyze the story clearly and in striking depth. Charles Whitfield MD shows us how to recognize and prevent this kind of child abuse and neglect and details core issues between Casey and her family. Barbara Whitfield shows us how to grieve such a loss and what we can do right now to find meaning in Caylee's death.

From the Foreword - Our single purpose is to help ensure that no child ever again suffers the horrific fate that took the life of one little girl in Florida.

From the Afterword - This tragic story is an opportunity for each of us to take what we have learned from the cruel death of one little girl, and use it to help prevent child abuse and neglect in all its forms.

An outstanding book. A First: a top shelf book on the case by top experts that is actually honest and helpful. I was blown away by this page-turner. This is the first case follow-on book --written by actual top experts-- that I've read that does a thorough, honest and insightful analysis of the legal case, an in-depth look at the inner workings of the family and others involved with the case. It is also unique in that it offers a solution to the outrage and disbelief that we all feel at the horrible miscarriage of justice that we all witnessed. The experts in this book actually provide a way that we can use to spot and prevent child abuse around us right now. I think that makes this the only actually important book about this case, and a model for case follow-on books in the future. This is no "touchy-feely" book, however: Wendy Murphy is dead-on honest and frank (as she always is on CNN News, Fox News and the rest). She asks the hard questions. Dr. Whitfield takes a straightforward look into possible underlying problems that occurred in the family that may have set the stage for the nightmare that killed Caylee and then played out on TV for three years. Barbara Whitfield offers an insight about how justice will be done to those who perpetrated, covered up and were involved in this tragedy. I've never once considered that actual justice was possible, which made me angry. But she offers an important insight on how justice will be done. I don't know what you feel about justice in this case, but I sure want to see it done. Other books about this case and other big cases like the Elizabeth Smart case, the Jon-Benet Ramsey case, and the OJ case stirred more unrest and anger, but offered little by way of what to do to prevent further abuses. Who needs books like that? They are attempts to make money off of a tragedy. They profit from a little girl's death by merely rehashing the obvious, projecting silly questions and stirring up more anger. This book, however, is different. It makes a real, tangible difference. Kudos and thank you Ms. Murphy, Dr. Whitfield and Mrs. Whitfield for a book that helps make meaning out of this terrible tragedy and gives some hope.
