Overview

A heartwarming tale about the importance of caring for strays.

In Billy's small town, stray cats are running wild, and there's growing pressure to get rid of them. The school bullies don't even hesitate to throw rocks at the poor creatures! So when Billy finds a wounded, starving kitten and sneaks her home, he has to be extra-careful to keep her hidden while he nurses her back to health. However precious little Conga is to him, he knows his dad would take her away if he discovered her, safe and warm in Billy's bedroom.

Can Billy and his friends confront the cat abusers, convince the town of the importance of caring for abandoned animals, and find a safe haven for strays?

A new, soon-to-be-classic animal story by the author of DOG LOST.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Praise for DOG LOST:

"Much more than a breathless page-turner. It's a brutally honest novel depicting the world of dogfighting in a wicked light but tempering any scenes of cruelty with an entire community of postive characters. And Lee brings together her winning, motley cast, human and animal, for a wonderfully heart-rousing ending. I loved it." -- Ann M. Martin, author of A Dog's Life

"A tough book, a tender book, and one I shan't forget." -- Michael Morpurgo, author of War Horse

“A moving, fast-paced tale [that] will appeal to fans of Shiloh." -- Kirkus Reviews

If you're a cat lover, I highly recommend this book. It will change the way you think about a stray cats life.

What I learned from reading this book is to not judge a book by its cover, or a cat in this case. When Billy found a cat underneath food crates, he felt bad for the domestic cat because of what poor condition it was living in and how it was being treated. When Billy decides to pick the cat up he feels it heart beating out of time. After taking this cat into his care, her life is turned around. Billy had fed the cat, played with the cat,and gave the cat water and milk. And even named the cat Conga. Conga is a name that Billy got from a comic book about an intelligent comic character. After the cat has gotten recovered from its little injuries it not just feels better, but it gets pregnant. Conga is very happy to have more babies but with Billy's not so sure. He already has to hide his cat from his parents but now he has something else to worry about, more cats! When you take the life a poorly treated animal and give it the love and support it needs, its life can be turned around dramatically. I highly recommend this book for any cat lover.

    Highly recommend

I really enjoyed this book. It showed how the love of a cat can change the life of a boy and family. Just wish it had been longer. It shows how smart cats really are. Would recommend for cat lovers.
