much to my suprise, Abercrombie has put together a group that includes a violin, giving a couple of the selections a distinctly Mahavishnu Orchestra sound, which I personally love. In fact the combination of instruments reminds me of a refreshing take on My Goals Beyond, ''peace 1&2'' . Really a beautiful album, and quite different from the organ/synth, drummer combo that I've enjoyed over the years. But aside from the Mahavishnu sound, the rest of the album reminds me a lot of Bill Frisell's soft, fat, rural brass band sound (thanks to Kenny Wheeler and Joe Lovano), very New Orleans, that is so steeped in a very ''ancient'' form of american blues, that literally any trajectory that Abercrombie's fluid style takes, it's right inside.
