Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Robert's short, rhythmic text is as much fun to read as it is to hear. Alley's expertise shines in the watercolor-and-ink illustrations. . . . This will be best for sharing one-on-one or with small groups since many of the smiles and laughs are in the details."—Kirkus Reviews

Children's Literature
Two kittens, one an orange striped tiger and the other a fluffy white cat, romp through the pages of this rhyming story for toddlers. These appealing felines leave havoc in their wake as they go through their day and the amusing watercolor illustrations capture the mischievous yet endearing habits of pets such as these. They balance on the windowsill to watch the birds and then they jump, skitter through the children's toys, and almost trip Mom as she comes in the door with her arms full of groceries. They run out into the garden, scatter the birds and the birdseed from the feeder and toy with the hose before puncturing the kiddy pool and riding on the swing. They are always together. "Kittens in the green grass-/one cat two./Here comes Dog, so . . ." and off they go to hide, hauling themselves up the steps to get back into the house. When they finally fall asleep in their basket, they dream of their daytime exploits. 2004, Henry Holt and Company, Ages 3 to 7.

PreS-Gr 1-Two mischievous kittens cavort around their yard and create hilarious havoc in this bouncy tribute to feline exuberance. Taking advantage of an open door and preoccupied owners, the cats jump from garden to tree to pool to doghouse, always getting into enough trouble to necessitate an expeditious escape to the refrain of "CAT SKIDOO!" A final leap from a pursuing dog to the safety of the house brings the now-exhausted pair to pleasant dreams of their rascally behavior. Roberts's rollicking verses are echoed in Alley's colorful ink, pen, and watercolor cartoons. Featuring plenty of white space and lending a sense of nonstop motion, the art is filled with details of the felines' antics. Perfect for group sharing and participation or one-on-one reading, this amusing adventure will be welcome in most collections.-Marge Loch-Wouters, Menasha's Public Library, WI Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
Kirkus Reviews
Two chubby, frisky kittens race around the house and yard playing cat skidoo, which seems to entail chasing everything that moves while wreaking havoc. They go after birds, battle a rubber ball, escape a dog, and finally return to the house for milk and a nap that includes a dream of dog chasing. Roberts's short, rhythmic text is as much fun to read as it is to hear. Alley's expertise shines in the watercolor-and-ink illustrations. The kittens are expressive without being too anthropomorphic. Toddlers won't need to read to tell the story of the kittens' adventure, and they'll find ample detail to embellish their versions. This will be best for sharing one-on-one or with small groups since many of the smiles and laughs are in the details. (Picture book. 2-6)
