Overview

Kathleen Paulson enjoys her life as a small-town librarian with two extraordinary cats, Owen and Hercules, who provide companionship during the quiet times and have a remarkable talent for sleuthing when murder disturbs the peace....

The local businesses of Mayville Heights hope to convince Chicago-based company Legacy Tours to sell a vacation package for their town. Legacy Tours partner Mike Glazer grew up in Mayville Heights, but he’s no longer the small-town boy people once knew. Even the local bootlegger has an issue with the bossy loudmouth Mike has become—until someone shuts him up for good.

When Kathleen discovers Mike’s body on the boardwalk, she can’t help but get involved in the investigation—even if her beau, Detective Marcus Gordon, would rather she didn’t. Now, with a little help from Owen and Hercules, it’s up to Kathleen to make sure the killer is booked for an extended stay in prison before someone else takes a permanent vacation.

Kathleen Paulson enjoys her life as a small-town librarian with two extraordinary cats, Owen and Hercules, who provide companionship during the quiet times and have a remarkable talent for sleuthing when murder disturbs the peace….

Mike Glazer comes back to his hometown of Mayville Heights as the representative of Legacy Tours, a Chicago based firm the local businesses are hoping to convince set up a vacation destination package for the town. He is not the same guy they remember, he has become a real loudmouth and it isn’t long before someone shuts him up for good.

When Kathleen or should I say Hercules finds the body on the boardwalk she just can’t help but get involved in the investigation. Her boyfriend, Detective Marcus Gordon, has begged her to leave the investigation to him but Kathleen with a little help from Hercules and Owen is determined to book the killer for an “extended stay in prison before someone else takes a permanent vacation”.

Match two magical kitties with a extremely inquisitive librarian and a murder or two and you have all the makings of an extraordinary mystery series.

Kathleen’s contract in Mayville Heights is almost up and she will have to make a big decision whether to stay or go back to Boston where her family lives. Until then she has plenty to keep her busy both at the library and with yet another murder. This time the clues are hard to come by and the “gossip grapevine” is working overtime. It is the cats that literally dig up the clues needed to solve this puzzler. Hopefully Kathleen stepping on the good detective’s toes doesn’t stall their romance. Roma and Maggie would be devastated.

Sofie Kelly has created a very identifiable cast of characters, human and feline. You know we all talk to our cats and her “catversations” are real and true and at times hilarious. I absolutely love Owen and Hercules. It doesn’t hurt that I have their twins living with me. I have not noticed that mine have a magical powers yet but there’s still hope. Kathleen is surrounded by a wonderful group of friends and I know she will realize that no matter home homesick she is for her family Mayville Heights is now her home.

A captivating cozy! Curl up with it, your favorite kitty, and enjoy!!

    Magical Indeed

This series have characters you can truly care about, especially the four footed ones. It is wonderful how the author brings attention to the plight of feral cats through fiction.

I am also addicted to the love story of Marcus and Kathleen. I hope there will be more adventures in Mayville too come soon.

As Kathleen ponders her future in Mayville Heights, she becomes involved in a murder case and with the help of her two frisky and mystifying cats her search for the truth will expose a killer. I love that this whodunit had a solid plot that kept me guessing; good conversations, and a small home town atmosphere that created a warm and cuddly reading experience. I’m glad to see that some things have been settle and I look forward to the next book in this terrific series.

The man we love to hate

In this 4th installment of the magical cats series, Kelly draws the victim in rather large strokes as a thoroughly unpleasant person! Being who they are, one of the cats finds the body--and while an immensely clever plot unfolds I, at least, found myself wondering if perhaps the murder was more public service than crime! It is the suspicion thrown on Kathleen's policeman love interest, complicated with the abrupt appearance of the thoroughly self-centered former fiance that complicates life for Kathleen. A few scenes with the insufferable Andrew and his certainty that Kathleen will give all up to worship at his cheating feet again put the murdered man's lack of people skills in perspective. By this time, we are invested. We want the murder solved, the sister innocent, and Andrew sent packing to leave Kathleen and her newly appreciated love a chance to flourish. This is the most sophisticated of Kelly's ploys to date, leaving hope that more like this book are on their way.

r solved, Andrew put in his place, and Ksthleen's new romanve

I very much like the idea of having cats with special abilities

I very much like the idea of having cats with special abilities that can be talked to (with apparent comprehension on their parts).
This is a fun mystery with a not-very-nice person being the murder victim. The question is which local had the most incentive since no one really liked him.
I thought there was a twist coming regarding the dead man and, sure enough, there was.
    Quite satisfying.

    The Flower

Unnoticed by the two grieving cats, a poppy waves in the wind a short distance from them. Its colors are rosy red fading to a soft yellow, remininscent of a dawn.

    Goldenstripe

Goldenstripe looked at Lilywolf sadly, wishing there was some way to comfort her. He pressed his nose to her ear and moved closer. "It's okay," he meowed softly, "No one can ever take you away from me, no matter what." He offered a cheerful smile and rested his head on his paws with a sigh. "It wasn't your fault, you didn't do anything wrong...." he added quietly. ~Goldenstripe

Amberspirit shook her head sadly. "There was nothing we could do." She lifted her head and pressed against the smaller she-cat. "I'm so sorry."
