As Cumbre Vieja, a massive Canary Island volcano experiences a major earthquake, many researchers suppose it's just a local disaster. But Britain's premier volcanologist knows different... Samuel May is a crackerjack scientist who has predicted for years that this earthquake would cause the La Palma volcano to collapse into the Atlantic Ocean. When that happens, the displacement of seawater causes a catastrophic tsunami that wipes out the coastlines of Morocco, Portugal and France. The resulting surge barreling up the English Channel is about to inundate the Thames River, rendering the Barrier Gates useless!

London faces certain destruction and may lie beneath fifty feet of water.

With the Queen of England and Parliament meeting to discuss the impending threat, the world is bracing for the biggest natural disaster ever recorded.

But the monster wave is heading to America and soon will wipe out every city from Bangor Maine to Key West Florida.

Shuffled to emergency meetings at the United Nations and White House, Dr. May must convince leaders to evacuate Atlantic Ocean coastlines from Europe to America.

Understanding the threat, the American President of the United States addresses the nation, and soon after, the city streets become chaotic with looting and rioting.

Enter Pope Callixtus the Fourth. He's just stumbled onto shocking ancient secrets which lead him to the island of Tenerife. Learning that Earth is nothing more than a science project for an extraterrestrial race... he understands the aliens have begun to shut down the planet in a series of natural Cataclysms.

What follows is a race against time to save mankind.

But there is an assassination plot underway, the Jesuits want the pope dead for revealing a hidden agenda. Will Callixtus make it back to Rome in time to save the world? Or will life as we know it end with the annihilation of humanity?

Everything I wanted in a book!
Carol Hovsepian
From Hollywood Screenwriting to the publishing avenues of New York, RJ Smith is brilliant and has a unique writing style that pulls us in. His chapters don't follow a traditional flow as found in most fictional books. He deviates from some chapters to focus on a specific character or two that really pulls us into their minds and motivations. I love that! (Hollywood Producer)

Wow, what an exciting read. Cataclysm is exactly what it is... nonstop action showcasing an impending doom of different nations. I was spellbound from the beginning and it never stopped. Not to spoil it for everyone, but let's just say there is a twist in the book that I never saw coming...just BRILLIANT writing!!!  I also enjoyed the Pope's involvement to save mankind.  I haven't read a book like this in such a long time that takes you on a whirlwind of a read. All the characters play an important part in wanting to save mankind and you can't help but get caught up in the moment and emotions of the characters. RJ is a new kind of writer that I definitely want to read more of and will be a fan. Keep it coming.

Filled with intrigue and suspense and, admittedly, some "out there" posits, I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Smith's story presentation. He has a knack for cliff hanger chapter endings that left me anxious to get to the next chapter. The author has developed a character rich environment within the story thus giving the reader a slew of personalities with which to connect. I felt an attachment with 2 characters. Pope Callixtus for his gentleness and yet contrasting fortitude to prevail and Colonel Meeds, of the Swiss Guard special forces, for his ruggedness and his determination to make things right. I highly recommend this book...and kudos to Mr. Smith. Guess i will now have to buy The Santa Claus Killer!!!

Cataclysm by RJ Smith is an exciting and suspenseful read. Yes, I am biased. However, I think it is important to let you, the reader, know that the plot, characters, and descriptive scene setting took my attention away from the editing process many times. From the BETA read to the final edit, Mr. Smith’s unique writing style thrilled and entertained me. The human experience exhibited through realistic characters, accurate depiction of scene locations, along with the combination of current events and scientific research mixed with ancient and current conspiracy theories is what makes this a fantastic read.

I had never heard of this author before, but took a chance because I was curious how the writer got the pope and an alien into the same room. I have to WRITE.... WOW. I found action,in these pages... great dialogue and situational comedy. From page number one, this writer pulled me into an earthquake and global Vatican conspiracy. Whoever RJ Smith is, he's been long overdue arriving here. The story took me around the world to experience something I don't believe I've ever read before.

This was an awesome read! .I know it sounds cliche but because the story has a 0 to 70 start and has so many twists and turns it  propels the reader forward like they were on a roller coaster.  R J Smith is the master of cliffhanger chapter endings. I had to keep reading to fine out the fates of my favorite characters as they often went from the frying pan into the fire. Hands down this is an awesome read. I highly recommend this if you are a fan of fast paced adventure.  This is an epic story!

What a fantastic read! I did not want to put it down. From the very first page the action and excitement gripped me. The characters are so animated they leap off the page and I feel as if I know them. Imminent disaster of cataclysmic proportions are about to happen and Mr. Smith will insert humor and I laughed out loud through out the book. I loved it. I highly recommend it. Nothing is predictable and that is so refreshing.

"Cataclysm" by R.J. Smith was a totally different read for me. I've seen a lot of natural disaster movies but never read one ~ until "Cataclysm" occurred. I loved the shark scenes and can quite (happily) say that I could really picture the body parts resurfacing the waters with a *plop, plop, plop*! At one point I thought of a scene from the movie Sharknado where someone is inhaled by a shark and then sometime later uses a chainsaw to escape ~ I'm thankful that R.J. Smith didn't use a similar theme as he makes his novel realistic and extremely, scarily believable. All the characters are very strong and well rounded. I was really rooting for a couple of them to escape the horrors of the story they were thrust headlong into.... This is the second novel by R.J. Smith that I have had the great pleasure of reading, the first being "The Santa Claus Killer". The author really made me, as the reader, feel as though I am riding along in a Hollywood movie. The scenes are splashing through my mind as I read ~ and that takes a real talent. I'm really looking forward to seeing his books in the cinema in the near future. They will be loved worldwide that I can be sure of. Many Thanks to the author for granting me a copy of his book "Cataclysm" in exchange for a fair and honest review. I'm really looking forward to his next novel.

My late grandfather once taught me the value of the phrase "The right tool for the right job" as we worked on my aging, but beloved, Chevrolet. The art of writing, as with any other formal creative expression, needs to be diverse enough to reach a variety of readers and differentiated enough that it stands out as noteworthy (in terms of style, substance and expressiveness). As a published author myself, I can attest that my writing is nothing like RJ Smith's, nor would I be successful in emulating what he has created if I attempted to. I might offer that my style is more like the chrome grill of that old Chevrolet, with a focus on nuance and detail that my grandfather would surely appreciate; whereas I liken Mr. Smith's style of writing to the car's engine. The purpose of the engine is not based on impressing the driver's sense of aesthetics (yes, Mr. Smith might rile up a few purists who detest BOLD PRINT or an abundance of punctuation!) but to create movement, action and drive. And that is precisely what RJ Smith does in this book. I have no inherent preference for horror stories, no strong interest in seismic activities or the machinations of supposed extraterrestrials, yet I truly enjoyed reading this book! For my money, if this author - or any author - can stoke enough interest in me to read about topics or events I have no innate interest in or preference for, and still provide me with an enjoyable reading experience to boot, that is good writing! If a person lives solely for the opera, then they might want to avoid a Rolling Stones concert. But it needs to be stated that the Rollings Stones put on one heck of a concert, and Mr. RJ Smith has written one heck of an enjoyable book! Five stars from me.
