New Revised 20th Anniversary Edition!

You’re on the spot. Someone wants you to explain some aspect of Catholic belief. Do you really think the pope is infallible? Why do Catholics pray to Mary? Where do sacraments come from? What do you think of the Bible? Are you saved? You wish some well-informed Catholic friend were around to help with the answer.

Or perhaps you are asking the questions yourself. Where do Catholic beliefs come from? Why do we pray for the dead? How does the rosary fit into a biblical faith?

The best-selling Catholic and Christian provides the answers you need. It is a readable and concise summary of commonly misunderstood Catholic beliefs—the teachings and practices that don’t get much attention in Sunday homilies and in religious education, but which puzzle Catholics and non-Catholics alike. This is a book for all Catholics who want to know more about their faith.  A Servant Book.

In the preface to this new, revised 20th anniversary edition of Catholic and Christian, author Alan Schreck reflects upon the centrality of the Eucharist at the core of the Catholic tradition as John Paul II calls us to enter the 'Year of the Eucharist'. This book covers all of the topics we Catholics are frequently asked about in conversation by our non-Catholic friends: Mary, the Communion of Saints, the Pope and more. The book is not only of value for its apologetic purposes, but also for any Catholic (or for individuals wanting to inform themselves about the Faith) who wants to learn more about the traditions at the core of our Church. The topics covered remain timely in an era when many are striving to understand the true teachings of the Church.

I was looking for some background to help me answer questions about my Catholic beliefs from my daughter-in-law, a Baptist. I certainly got that, as well as reminders of things I'd forgotten, and new clarity about a variety of theological issues. Besides helping my son & his wife resolve some questions, I achieved a new focus of my own faith.

As a 'cradle' Protestant married to a 'cradle' Catholic, I found this book extremely informative and refreshing to read. No Catholic or Protestant bashing here, but an sincere effort to help both Protestants and Catholics to a better understanding of Catholic Christianity. It clarified some issues that my spouse and I had lovingly debated. We will both learn from this book. This book is a wonderful step towards unifying sincere seekers of Christ.
