Concise overview Like others in The Catholic Update Guide series

    Concise overview
Like others in The Catholic Update Guide series, this overview of the New Evangelization is based on material from Franciscan Media and edited by Carol Kendzia. The first two chapters address development of Church teaching on evangelization, with special emphasis on evangelization as the mission of all the faithful, not just Church leaders.

The third and final chapter “Go Out into the World,” focuses on the how-to. Kendzia states that we are called to present an inviting image to the world. “We must be a collective sign of God’s goodness, openness, and acceptance to all men and women.” She turns to the writings of Henry Libersat, author of 16 books and an ordained permanent deacon, for specific ideas, among them thinking about “how to tell your story.” He suggests we look at our lives before we came to know the Lord, describe the feelings that arose when we experienced God’s love, and identify ways that experience changed us. Most importantly, we need to share our story as a conversation, not a homily or a lesson.

Each chapter ends with reflection questions, and back matter includes a 10-point evangelization checklist and information on sources and contributors. Catholic Update Guide to the New Evangelization is a concise overview of the New Evangelization and what it calls Catholics to do.
