This book had very little to offer regarding Cathy Williams. It was essentially written surrounding a newspaper article. It begins with a lesson in the life of a slave, making sure to include the fashionable shot at the founding fathers for having owned slaves. A substantial portion is giving numerous examples of "what she may have been thinking." Further there are some inaccuracies regarding forced servitude within the Union army. Getting past all that, there is some interesting history of the unit that she joined after the Civil War.
Very Good Book That Tells a Very Important Story. A fascinating look at the life of the first female buffalo soldier in American history. Cathy Williams serves as an inspiring and very positive example for young American women today. She is a true pioneer for all American women in today's Armed Forces of America. This is an inspirational story that is highly recommended.
