Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Two additions to the Harper Growing Tree series encourage little ones to settle down for the night. Cat's Pajamas by Thacher Hurd (for ages 1-up) boasts a rhythmic, hand-clapping text (Cool cats, hip cats, kitty cats/ MEOW!/ Bopping down dark streets/ Looking for CHOW!) and inventive illustrations (brightly colored cats against a photo collage of dusky cityscapes) leading up to the moment when the felines crawl under the covers. One Sleepy Baby by Pamela Levine, illus. by Stephanie Milanowski (for newborns and up), counts up to 10 and to slumber: "1 sleepy baby/ 2 tired eyes./ 3 bedtime stories, a special lullaby." Crisp illustrations of Mama, Daddy and baby complement the tender verse's dreamy tone. (Sept.) Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
Children's Literature
The cats are having a ball. They are bopping and hopping and playing a loud sound. But not everyone in the neighborhood enjoys it as much as they do, and so they must "Cut that sound! / Put away the kittyhorn" and head off to Pajama Land. Busy drawings on dark backgrounds set the stage for this nighttime romp. Your young one will enjoy the lively beat of different words and sounds in this board book. Part of the "Harper Growing Tree" series. 2001, HarperFestival, $5.95. Ages 18 mo. to 3. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

    Jumpy, Jazzy, FUN!

If your child loves music, this book has a great rhymes and tempo! Its kitties are adorable in their kitty pajamas as they prowl about town making music and having a great time! At 14 months, my son brought me this book every day to read over and over again, he loves it!
