Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
A very simple rhyming text features a young child and a fat gray cat. Since they are pals, the pictures show them eating, tidying themselves and playing. The little one shows real delight when the cat pounces on a toy mouse. The activities including peek-a-boo and wearing mom's shoes are typical toddler games. This is a board book that should please the very young who will undoubtedly see themselves in similar fun. 2000, Viking/Penguin Putnam, Ages 1 to 3, $5.99. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
School Library Journal
PreS-Two board books with simple and descriptive rhyming texts. In Bear's Day, a toddler plays with a teddy bear, brushes its hair, has tea, counts blocks, marches, claps, etc. Cat's Play features the same child interacting with a pet feline. They watch fish swim, eat, toss a ball, and play peek-a-boo together. The large, uncluttered illustrations on colored backgrounds are done in soft, gentle hues. The round, somewhat lumpy figures are appealing and animated. Solid additions for one-on-one or group sharing.-JoAnn Jonas, Carlsbad City Library, San Diego, CA Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.|

In these companion board books (Bear's Day), a sprightly toddler has old-fashioned fun messing around with a few simple toys, a cat, and a stuffed bear. Rhyming captions accompany vibrant pen-and-watercolor-washed illustrations.
