Page-turning suspense. Sizzling romance.
Jessie Rhoades moved to Florida to start a new, simple life. But things get very complicated when the newspaper where she is an editor publishes a huge story that turns out to be a hoax.
On top of that, freelance reporter Clay Christopher is snooping around her professional and personal lives.
When two of the bogus story’s main sources turn up dead, everything is on the line — hearts, lives and careers — as Jessie and Clay race to uncover the truth before anyone else dies, including them.

Meet the Author

I started writing as a teenager, plunking my dad's electric typewriter on my bedroom floor and pounding away at it in my jams. I'd just finished reading Rage of Angels by Sidney Sheldon and found the unhappy ending inspiring. So, naturally, I decided to write romance novels, where the ending is guaranteed to be happy. You can’t imagine how relieved I am that you will never, ever read that first novel, which was edited using scissors and rubber cement. At least the fumes were good.
The day I sold my first novel, Relative Strangers, I almost hung up on my agent’s assistant, thinking she was a telemarketer. See, I’d given up on getting published and had decided to learn how to play the piano. Apparently, the universe was not impressed by my (in)ability to tickle the ivories.
My second novel, Caught in the Act, was a Rita finalist in the romantic suspense category. Nora Roberts won that year. She said she was “shocked,” so I must have had her worried.
My other novels include Found Wanting, soon to be an e-book, and three Berkley Sensation titles that are available now: Cold Midnight, True Vision and True Colors. True Shot, coming in December, is the third in my paranormal romantic suspense True trilogy.
Besides writing, I love to play tennis and board games and grill out with friends. My guilty pleasures include The Real Housewives of New York, Project Runway and So You Think You Can Dance. I don’t have time to be ashamed.
I have two adorable puddies, Maddy and Allie, and plan to someday have a dog named Boo.
I love, love, LOVE hearing from readers, so please drop me an e-mail even if it’s just to say hi: .

    Excellent romantic mystery

Jessie Rhoades relocated to Florida to escape a bad marriage and to further her career as the city editor of the Fort Myers Star News. Her top journalist reports on cops frequenting local strip joints while on duty. However, word is that the story is a hoax and careers could be ruined.
Jessie is driving when her brakes fail leading to a crash. She is rescued by freelance reporter Clay Christopher who rushes her to the hospital. Not long afterward, New York based editor Steve Crank asks Clay to investigate the police scandal and possible hoax. Pretty much retired since his beloved Ellen died, Clay makes some cursory inquiries, but soon finds Jessie has given him a reason to live just as he has revived her personal life. However, someone wants her dead as evident by her sliced brake line.
Though in some ways the villain is obvious even with clever disguising by Joyce Lamb, this is a strong investigative romantic mystery. The entertaining story line provides the reader with two levels of tension. Will Jessie and Clay overcome their respective past relationships to become an entity with her as his professional boss even as the audience will wonder if the heroine will survive the assaults on her life? Readers will appreciate this deep tale rooting for the lead couple to make it.
Harriet Klausner

I did NOT LIKE THIS BOOK! It isn't even that the mystery of the book isn't good, because I was intrigued to see how this would end. It is more of the characters that get on my nerves. Jessie, the main character, annoys the hell out of me. It was hard for me to like her and I did not think the writer did a good job of creating chemistry between Jessie and Clay. I was looking for a little mystery and romance and this just did not do it for me. I would not recommend this book.

    Keeps you on your toes.

There are a lot of players in this novel which makes the reader pay attention;esp. since they are all interlinked somehow. Good suspense and sweet love story also.
