More About This Book

Overview

Author Danny Quintana presents the Hispanic voices of those who migrated after World War II from northern New Mexico, southern Colorado and old Mexico to America's cities.

All Americans-except for the Native Americans-are descendants of immigrants, insists Quintana. Apart from the enslaved blacks, we all came here looking for better opportunities. And today's new wave of immigrants from Mexico is driven by the same forces. They want the employment, education, and rich culture that America offers.

Since we don't understand this large, diverse, dark-skinned group, how can we possibly comprehend the current immigration squabbles captivating our public?

To counter those misconceptions, Quintana gives us the voices of America's Hispanics caught in the middle of a debate that they did not start.

Quintana provides through interviews and sober reflection, valuable guidance on this important debate. In the end, he tells us, "they are America."

Insightful. I highly recommend this book.

I found this book to be very goood having grown up in Tooele Utah and witnessed the migration of so many fine Spanish Americans from New Mexico and Colorado. Tooele, and the state of Utah, is a better place because of this demographic evolution relative to our local history. The author has done a splendid job writing and interviewing key individuals.
