Many charity drives are tied to walks or runs; Causes 2, the second various-artists album benefiting African relief organized by the Waxploitation label, might be subtitled "Dancing for Darfur." Not all of the tracks on the disc fit into the electronica/dance-rock category. The track list, featuring many exclusive contributions (sometimes by virtue of being live recordings or remixes), includes, for instance, the folk-rock of the Decemberists' "After the Bombs [Live Version]" as well as the pop-soul of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings' "It Hurts to Be Alone." Devendra Banhart spends close to ten minutes on "White Reggae Troll," which is set to reggae beat part of the time. But the lion's share of the tracks, by the likes of Gnarls Barkley, LCD Soundsystem, and My Morning Jacket, have dancefloor aspirations. It's all done with good intentions, and completists for any of these artists could do worse than to pony up and party down.
