Children's LiteratureThese beautiful dogs have an interesting history. They are descendants of a dog named Ann's Son. Ann's Son won a dog show contest in 1928 because he mostly resembled the toy spaniels that belonged to King Charles II, the king of England. Thereafter, the dogs were named Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. These spaniels are happy, playful, lovable and gentle dogs and make good companions. They have long, silky hair that comes in four colors. The spaniels are small dogs about 12 to 13 inches high and weigh about 13 to 18 pounds, making them just the right size for sitting on their owner's lap. They have long ears and big eyes that make for cute facial expressions. These spaniels need more attention than many other breeds of dogs and do not like to be left alone. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniels should live indoors. They do not do well in very hot or cold weather. They like to take walks on a leash to explore the outside, and they need plenty of rest. The puppies are very small when they are born, weighing about 5 to 8 ounces. This informative book about this breed of spaniels has beautiful pictures of the dogs. The book also has a web site page for further information and a glossary. It is part of the "Dog Set IV" series.
