Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Dianne Ochiltree
Who were the Neanderthals? This "All Aboard Reading" title explains quite well what we know about these primitive people who lived fifty thousand years ago, and how scientists continue to discover interesting facts about their daily lives in archaeological digs. Unfortunately, the text also introduces what we do not yet know about the Neanderthals, which may be a bit confusing for beginning readers and gives this otherwise fine book a weak ending. Dellosso's rugged watercolors accurately portray the Neanderthals' daily struggle for survival in the Ice Age, while at the same time conveying the loving, family relationships that made it all worthwhile.
