Children's Literature
Caves are fascinating formations defined as any natural underground passage that opens to the earth's surface. Some small caves are barely a few feet big. Others are so large that entire underground waterfalls, lakes, and streams are inside. The state of Kentucky has a system of caves that contains over 360 miles of passages and caverns. This book provides interesting facts about many amazing caves throughout the world. The different types of caves and cave decorations are also explained and there are many intriguing photographs that support the captivating text. The chapter that discusses the various species that live inside a cave is very interesting but the chapter that describes cave exploration is particularly noteworthy. This book will appeal to any reader that has even a minimal interest in the natural wonders of the world. The information provided in the appendix lists useful sources for further investigation. This book is part of the "Wonders of the World" series. 2005, Thomson Gale/Kidhaven Press, Ages 8 to 12.
