Cavity Searchby Golden Delicious
Though only a nine-song collection -- split up with five being Golden Delicious tracks, and the last four being Pete Krebs solo offerings -- there are more than a few interesting moments found here. Golden Delicious contributes a few more high-octane covers, such as excellent versions of "I Truly Understand" and "House Carpenter," as well as the instrumental workout on "Jerusalem Ridge." The strange "Oooh! Trippy" sounds like a spooky Tom Waits sound collage. The Krebs solo tracks are quite good, with "Ashes Back to Vegas" and "Dressed to the Nines" being stripped down versions of the tracks that appear on his quintessential Sweet Ona Rose album. The remaining two tracks are previously unreleased, one being the Dylan-esque word race of "America" and the other being "We Never Sleep," which recalls some of Krebs' earlier, moodier recordings. Finally, Cavity Search is worth picking up as an introduction to the music of Golden Delicious and Pete Krebs, though their full-length releases probably give a better overall sense of both.
