Cisco has sub-divided their CCENT and CCNA track into two separate exams, and this is a two book set that divides study materials respectively. Since each book discusses only the topics you need to know to pass each respective exam, it reduces the pressure of having to learn all of the material for the single CCNA exam. After having been through formal classroom training, I obtained these books to complete my preparation for taking the 822 and 816 tests and I soon learned after opening these books that classroom instruction alone would not prepare me well for the exam. One of the best things about these books is the ¿Do I Know This Already?¿ sections at the start of each chapter. There are at least ten multiple choice questions to quiz your knowledge on each chapter. This enabled me to quickly determine if I should read the chapter for more in-depth study. The books contain an extensive 25 page glossary that defines basically any and all terms you would need to understand. In book two, the included CD contains a great video lesson on NAT overloading that was one of the best descriptions I have heard on the topic. Wendell Odom did a nice job of explaining each concept that is needed for thorough understanding of the necessary concepts needed to not only pass the exam, but to perform your job as a CCNA. While I passed both exams, I will say the wealth of information contained in these books far exceeds what Cisco tests on, so they will be a great reference for me until I have solid grasp of the concepts utilized at a CCNA level job.
I think this is a very good book for introduction to Cisco. it covers all the basic to pass CCNA. I still think it help alot to work with the real router and Switch for the ccna test. I really highly recommend you read this book.
Excellent text written by one who is very familiar with Cisco products and certification requirements. No single resource will prepare you for ICND1, ICND2 or the CCNA composite exam; however, if you follow Odom's recommended study plans (presented in the front of his books) and use other resources to clarify and deepen your understanding of the material presented, you will pass the exam on first attempt. I passed the CCNA about 2 and a half years ago and finished my CCNP 5 months ago. Wendell's CCNA text was instrumental in helping me prepare for the CCNP exams. Good luck!
Excellent book for those desiring to obtain the CCENT/CCNA.
I must say that this set of books almost have everything that you'd need to pass the CCNA exam. I found the information accurate, informative and most of all well written. The author does a great job in giving you the material in a such a way that you can't help but to understand. My only complaint is that in Chapter 1 on the ICND2 book, he does not mention or cover Inter-vlan routing. This is a premeier subject on the test an it is never mentioned. The author covers VLANs in great depth, but not to the point of explaining Inter-Vlans also known as "router on a stick." I still would recommend this set to anyone who wants to pass the exam, but I'd also recommend that you seek information from other sources such as Cisco's own website for added information.
