I like Frances Burney and enjoyed her first novel Evelina a great deal. As a result, I ordered this book. One thing that struck me about this novel is that in addition to being written well it is entertaining and still relevant. Anyone who wants to overextend themselves financially in order to "keep up with the Joneses" or to "maintain appearances" cant help but understand the absurdity of such an enterprese and the dire consequences of doing so after reading this book. I mention this as one example of a relevant social issue that just sort of "exists" as you read about the heroine and what is going on in her life. In the end she has to make a choice, does she "bet the bank" on love or does she continue to live, what for all appearances is,a fulfilling life as an independent woman. Thr story ends with some assurance that she made the right choice.

Fanny Burney's novels, especially 'Cecelia,' are a must for any Austen fan. As Austen's role model, Burney writes novels that are witty, fast paced, and filled with societial critique and romance. Do not be discouraged by the length every moment is so enjoyable that you wish 'Ceceila' were even longer.

The first book i read by this authour was Evelina and I decided when i finished it that it was definetly the best book she wrote (even though i hadn't read any other book by her then) but my mind surely changed after I read this absolutley AWESOME book Cecilia.

It is reprinted from the original so you have to get used to the "s" looks like an "f" thing--after you get used to it, kinda fun. A lot like a Jane Austen novel Has a few too many characters to keep track of for my tastes.

To anyone considering buying this book. It appears as though Echo publishing has just recently been started as a business. On that note, my experience with them has been horrible. Their books not only contain numerous amounts of 'typos' but also contain false information.
