Your capacity to create is unlimited!

Celebrate Your Creative Self helps you act upon your artistic inspirations and joyfully appreciate the creative process. You'll develop the skills you need to express yourself and explore your favorite mediums. Step-by-step demos show you how to:

  • Capture and manipulate light in your work
  • Experiment with new and unusual painting surfaces
  • Break the "rules" of color composition that inhibit your creativity
  • Create your own dynamic designs for paintings with more impact
  • Add layers of meaning to your work with the symbolism inherent in both man-made objects and natural elements
  • Imbue your work with a touch of fantasy and recapture the magic you remember from childhood
  • Move beyond traditional 2-dimensional painting into 3-D reconstruction
  • And much, much more!

Once you've built up such a repertoire of skills, you'll be able to turn any idea into finished art by applying the techniques that best accommodate your inspiration. You'll also learn how to tap the deepest recesses of your creative wellspring by taking risks, getting personal and making meaningful statements with your work.

No matter what your medium, no matter what your level of skill, Celebrate Your Creative Self can help make your artistic dreams a reality!

I love textured paintings and this book is filled with ideas as well as how-to's! I got many ideas from it to spark my creativity. It was easy to follow. The illustrations are beautiful.

This is Mary Beam, who loves layers of deeper structure for her works, but what she really wants to be is the facilitator of your own creative discoveries. She uses mini lessons to introduce you to new options and tools in your personal tool belt. Most importantly Mary Beam wants you to be empowered to start creating or get unstuck. Mary Beam's book is in a format that makes it easy to open the book and keep it open. If you are the least bit fussy, get a piece of clear plastic off the roll at Wallie World or a cookbook protector. Personally, I find the smudges on my books and add to the annotated notes, sketches and color coded post-its that made this book my own. It is another workshop in a book, so use it from where ever it interests you or fall open. It only works for you, unfortunately if you do the work at your personal art factory. This should be part of your art library for the day you have blue flu, your cat dies or the creative well just seems to have dehydrated into a desecated husk. A creative affirmation and and tons of demos and prompts. Buy one right now, I'm looking at my personal copy and am enticed to try some of the ones I did before in a new way with new media. Invite Mary Beam into your creative space to be your mentor and do the activities. Keep them in a file so you can look back, compare progress and cut them up or paint over to rework previous work. Keep a response journal, so you can remember what you learned about the things you like and the things you think are mistakes, actually trials of process and strategies to use in different pieces to bring your free art pieces into comprehensible pieces for other views. Start now.

This is an incredible book. I am an experimental painter more than anything and I love to try new things with paint. I also love mixed media and this author is incredible at this! I went throught the book at the bookstore and still had to have it for my own! I have tried some of the things she talks about but she has so many more things for me to try that I had not thought about. Her arrangement of the experiments and the demonstrations were wonderful. I also really liked all the other authors she featured in her book. I am looking forward to trying her ideas!
