Presents a homer-by-homer review of the St. Louis Cardinal slugger's single-season home run record.
Posted October 13, 2000
Celebrating 70 is a look-back at the incredible season Mark McGwire had in 1998. Along with Sammy Sosa, they spent that summer chasing the ghosts of Babe Ruth and Roger Maris as they went after, then broke the all-time single season home run-record. This book chronicles their quest, complete with pictures, information about every home run (complete with the date, opposing pitcher, final score, etc.) The pictures of the celebration after McGwire's 60th, 61st and 62nd home runs are incredible and give you 'goose-bumps' when you think of what it must have meant both to McGwire and to the city of St. Louis to have this truly magical season. One of the photos in the book that I really liked shows Sosa & McGwire together, and shows the true sportmanship these two displayed with each other that entire season. I remember watching on TV several Cardinals games in various places that season and trying to get a good look when McGwire was at bat in the hopes I'd see him blast another out of the park. I feel priveleged to now own this book, which does a wonderful job of describing a part of baseball history. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
