There are many shots of the crowd included, which will help readers understand just how many people were actually there. One small collage shows people from around the world, most looking happy or emotional, although one woman looks positively enraged, which seems like an odd picture to include. However, many of the pictures do project the positive energy of the day and that is the message that readers will take away. Gr 2–4—Focusing on the human-interest side of President Obama, his family, and his inauguration, these books are essentially photo-essays mostly featuring the campaign and early days in the White House. As a group, it is obvious that the photos were selected from the same cache of days and events, but the sharp focus, saturated color, and handsome family make for engaging material. Short, one- or two-sentence captions describe the subjects, while the bold, full-spread images speak for themselves.
