Overview

This U.K. compilation celebrates the famed German big band leader's gloriously kitschy versions of '60s hits like "Guantanamera," "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay," and a delightfully whimsical version of the Tornadoes' "Telstar." Unlike other baton-wielders of his generation, Last composed a great deal of his own music -- "Games That Lovers Play" is featured here -- as well as creatively interpreting pop hits, often going against the grain by including vocals. Last continues to perform sold-out shows all over Europe, and Celebrating the Sixties, despite the occasional dud ("Downtown," "Oh Pretty Woman"), serves as a fine indicator as to why that is.
