Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Seth Kaufman

And while there's no shortage of "message" songs -- Little Texas' "Big Country" offers a Nashville power ballad update of "We Are the World," while Faith Hill's heartfelt "Before You Grow" reminds parents and kids to grab precious moments now -- the lighter songs work the best. Buoyant fun pervades Brenda Lee's version of "Grandma's Feather Bed," and so does Chet Atkins's sound effects-treated take on "I'm My Own Grandpaw." One of country's greatest novelty songs, "Grandpaw" is a comically complex tale of twisted genealogy, which may have some younger kids scratching their heads. The sing-along chorus, however, should smooth over any confusion.
