Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Young readers will enjoy the photographs that depict holidays in many different cultures and countries. Text is brief but adequate for an introduction. Celebrations are keyed to the seasons in which they occur. This multicultural text presents these different cultures with actual photographs of children celebrating these holidays. The representation in the photos is also multicultural. Many photographs give pictures of authentic costumes. There is an index, but it seems unnecessary for a book on this level. This gives a good starting point for discussion of other cultures, but will be limited to lower elementary. Part of the "Yellow Umbrella Books" series; this book is recommended for a social studies curriculum. 2004, Capstone Press, Ages 6 to 8.
