The Album That You Listen To While You're Driving By The Beach

Welcome to the genre of California Rock, Hole. This is a very well made album. It has NO screaming, which is odd for a Hole album. Here's a song review, just for YOU! CELEBRITY SKIN is maybe Hole's most famous song, filled with guitars and catchy hooks. AWFUL is definately a pop-song. A little too poppy for me. HIT SO HARD is a pop-rock song, good. MALIBU is the most beachy-song on the album, good Cali-rock. REASONS TO BE BEAUTIFUL is the heavist song on the album, some interesting lyrics (i.e. "Love hangs herself"). DYING is an awesome song, sends chills through your body, the way Courtney delivers this slow ballad. USE ONCE & DESTROY is a kind of annoying song, but it's all good. NORTHERN STAR is obviously about Kurt. Once again, Courtney delivers extrodinarily. BOYS ON THE RADIO is my favorite song on the album, it's just so good in so many ways, I can't even explain it! HEAVEN TONIGHT is another beachy rock song, very well made. PLAYING YOUR SONG is where Courtney shows her punk-grunge roots, sounds like a mix between America's Sweetheart and Live Through This. PETALS is an interesting rock song, all about flowers and the truth, good way to end an album. The album's extra special 'cause Courtney wrote every song about Kurt (or so I've heard from many sources). Good album by a great band.

Really more of a Billy Corgan album...

Celebrity Skin is definitely the one album that is least representative of Hole's work as a whole. It's a HUGE departure from the anger and bitterness of Pretty On The Inside and Live Through This, opting instead for marshmallowy sweetness. If anything, Hole's swan song sounds more like a Smashing Pumpkins album -- and not a very interesting one at that -- with female vocals. I'd strongly recommend Live Through This instead, since it's almost as easy to swallow but doesn't sacrifice the band's integrity. And if you want a Smashing Pumpkins album, buy one of those, too. But this is definitely one Billy Corgan project you can live without.

    A poppier, more gentle Hole . . .

This is the quintessential Hole album. It's full of pain, regret, and even, an occasional moment of happiness. It's largely about Courtney's late husband, Kurt Cobain. The album is softer and more melodic than Live Through This, but it has a great deal of appeal to people who listen to all kinds of music. Courtney growls, screams, whispers and croons, pulling the listener into the song. Billy Corgan co-wrote a lot of these songs and is probably responisble for the more electronic, melodic sound of the album. Nonetheless, every Hole fan should own this album. Best Songs: Celebrity Skin, Awful, Hit So Hard, Dying, Northern Star, Playing Your Song, Malibu, and Petals.

    Wonderful

I really love this album. It's more pop than Live through this but there are always rock and grungy sounds. My favourites of this album are Dying, Northern Star, Petals, Malibu and Playing Your Song. Courtney is the best ! Buy this album and you'll not be disappointed.

    One of the best CD's

This is one of the most amazing cd's. It has power, real power. Its lyrics and music tell amazing stories, from Awful to Boys On The Radio, to Petals, they are all so real. Hole is not like so many bands these days, which have throw-away lyrics that are easy to forget and have no meaning. But lines like ''never knew what I would be\all the darling buds are made\they fall in the sand\they carry you down\they carry you down'' send a true to life message, one that makes you think, and that is what is best about Hole. This is probably my favorite cd.

    A Talent many have missed...

Although Hole may be famous, I still believe there is a large number of people who have not experienced the power this band projects. Whether or not you like or dislike Courtney Love, you must respect the journey she has endured. This is very clear in her music. I suggest purchasing this CD even if your not a Hole fan. It's a musical experience. For example the song '' Northern Star'' is not just a song, its a place.....go there.
