Overview

The "New True Books" have been produced to fill a very important need. Children are by nature inquisitive and these fact-filled books provide answers to many basic questions.

Students use the New True Books for supplementary work in their classes. They use them to find out about special things that interest them. They read them to learn on their own. Packed with information, each fascinating book encourages children to study independently.

The "New True Books" are effective. Each book is richly illustrated with full-color photographs and art, selected to support the text. A large, easy-to-read typeface is used. Each title contains a table of contents, a glossary, and a complete index.

The "New True Book" series was prepared under the direction of the late Illa Podendorf, formerly with the Laboratory School, University of Chicago.

Remember, children will always have questions, so let the "New True Books" help them find the answers.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
ea. vol: 45p. photogs. glossary. index. (New True Bks.). CIP. Childrens. Nov. 1985. PLB $7.95. K-Gr 3 These titles have an attractive format with numerous color photographs, large print and wide margins, but do not meet the needs of any audience. The subject matter and vocabulary are often too complex to be understood by younger children who will be attracted to the format, and older children will find the writing to be stiff and stilted and the coverage too brief and simplistic to be of much use. Not all of the terms with which younger children will need help are defined in the text or in the glossaries. Nutrition , the better of the two books, offers a useful vitamin chart which includes food sources, and it also presents a simple, understandable explanation of the major food groups. However, for older primary grade students, Brian Ward's Food and Digestion (Watts, 1982) and Dorothy Baldwin and Claire Lister's Your Body Fuel (Bookwright Pr, 1984) offer more thorough coverage. Cynthia Sturgis, Ledding Library, Milwaukie, Oreg.
