Celtic Aire

Barnes & Noble - Carol Wright
Dordán, a female quartet from County Galway, offers a lively, intimate experience of Celtic music. Without sweaty brows or thundering taps, without exotic fusions of Spanish flamenco or Australian didgeridoo, and without ambient dubs or technical wizardry, Dordán casts a comforting all-acoustic spell that captures the delicate play of melody and harmony. The sounds of Celtic harp, cello, viola, fiddles, guitar, flutes, whistle, and voice transport one to some genteel salon of times gone by. Far from the rowdy local pub, Dordán's music -- including a gigue by Handel and Mozart's lovely "Ridente la calma" -- evokes stately parlor dances. CELTIC AIRE's laments and ballads,...

Far from the rowdy local pub, Dordán's music -- including a gigue by Handel and Mozart's lovely "Ridente la calma" -- evokes stately parlor dances. CELTIC AIRE's laments and ballads, accompanied elegantly by a warm Spanish guitar, offer lyrics that beg to be understood and embraced. "Coilin Phadraic Sheamais" offers delicious four-part vocal harmonies accompanied only by percussion. Now, isn't this how Celtic music is supposed to sound?
All Music Guide - Steve Huey
An all-female quartet from County Calway, Dordan fuses the music of their Celtic heritage with elegant classical arrangements and a meditative new age feel on Celtic Aire. Not merely an interpretive group, Dordan brings some original tunes to the mix of Irish airs, reels, and brief classical pieces. The result is not unlike the early Chieftains sound.
