The Perfect Tarot for Dragon Lovers!

Dig deeply into ancient Celtic lore as your magic and divinations bask in the fiery breath of The Celtic Dragon Tarot by D. J. Conway and Lisa Hunt.

Using her deep knowledge of the ancient Celts and working with the ancient dragon energies, Conway has designed one of the most vivid and powerful Tarot decks ever. The art for this deck was created by fantasy illustrator Lisa Hunt. Her brilliant and surprisingly intense watercolor amplifies the meanings of the cards. Her different types of dragons are filled with passion and life that will bring chills to your spine as you look at each card.

No words can really express the beauty of this deck. The amazing detail to attention on each card, from delicate scrollwork on clothes to the intensity of the expressions on the people and many different dragons will astound you. The included 216-page book explains the symbolism and meanings of each card. Included are four Tarot spreads to help make The Celtic Dragon Tarot a part of your daily life. Also featured are instructions on how to meditate with this deck, including three guided meditations. Numerous spells are given that use this deck and candles for healing, luck, protection, love, and more. You'll even learn how to develop your psychic abilities.

This is the kit that has it all. A beautiful, well-conceived deck and a thorough book. Whether you are interested in the Tarot, the Celts, magic, or self-improvement, this kit is a must!

Summary: A deck that will appeal to lovers of dragons, especially in a Celtic context. As this deck follows the RWS "standard," it will be usable by beginners and pros looking for an additional deck to add to their collection. A must for lovers of Lisa Hunt’s artwork.

Review:.

The Tarot can be used for many more purposes than just giving readings. One of the most powerful uses of the Tarot is as part of performing magick. Few books really go into this, especially books that come with a deck, and you'll be pleased to see that A Guide to the Celtic Dragon Tarot includes such a section.

The book also includes a section on using this Tarot for "meditation" ("guided visualization" might be a more accurate term). Try one out and in no time you'll be out on the astral plane. The reason for this can be found in the very design of the artwork of the cards. Most decks either have art that goes all the way to the edge of the card or have a clear and precise boundary and a clear border. This deck has a grayish border, but the artwork seems to feather into it. There’s no clear line where the images end and the border begins. By looking at a card it is easy to "go off" the edge of the image and onto the astral plane.

Most people will get this deck to do readings. As the names pretty much follow those of the RWS deck, just about anyone will be able to use this Tarot. The images, however, can be quite different from the RWS. The Fool isn’t walking off a cliff, the Magician is a woman, and the Lovers are two dragons. That said, Lisa Hunt’s art is quite remarkable. Although done in watercolor, it is not limited to the pastel-like wimpiness of the paints we used as a child. There is also brilliant, intense color used to amplify the meanings of the cards. In short, Hunt’s mastery of the medium is used to great effect. Her studies of different types of animals allowed her to create different types of dragons that are filled with passion and life. The backgrounds are primarily simple watercolor washes or stones with some plants with the use of some Celtic imagery. However, this is primarily a deck about dragons.

Because the symbolism of the cards is so unique, the key to understanding this deck should be in the accompanying book. It should be pointed out that Ms. Conway is primarily known as an author of Pagan books. Many people getting this deck will be fans of her Pagan writing and not people with a strong focus on the Tarot. Therefore, I would think that her book should appeal to Pagans, beginning and experienced Tarot readers, Celtophiles and lovers of dragons.

To sum up this review, the beautiful art of Lisa Hunt is enough to make this deck a part of any Tarot reader’s collection of decks. It’s great for meditation and to help people achieve astral projection.

For doing readings, the symbolism on the cards is unique, and the descriptions in the book and their symbolic meaning will speak to many people readers.

    ok deck

i am a novice tarot reader and am really knowledgable about dragons. although i really liked this deck, and use it often, the actual symbolism of dragons depcited here isnt quite accurate, acutally not even close to the real symbolism dragons are suppose to mean. The book also seems to be put together hastily. Probably the worst thiing about this deck is taht you cant read reversals with this deck, which limits the accuracy of a reading. I would not use this deck for a client, unless my client has a fetish with dragons and actually wants it to be used. But I do use it often for daily readings, magick, and for quick three card layout readings. Sometimes I also find myself giving extremly postive readings from this deck. It seems like evyertime I give a reading for someone, they have an extremly bright session. Rarely do I get totally inaccurate readings from this deck, but it happened once or twice. The good thing about this deck is, it is BEAUTIFULLY DONE. Lisa Hunt is an extremly talented artist. And the humans in the deck, dont look like body builders or supermodels giving it more realism. The cards have quite a few symbols on them, which makes it really easy to read. Thats what I really look for in a deck. This deck also feels great too, and easy to shuffle. The decks are very easy to read, and is a good begining deck. This was one of my first decks, and I threw away the book about a month after I got the cards. Overall, this is a good deck, but if you are looking for something more accurate and mystical I would not buy this. I wouldnt buy any of other D.J Conway materials either, because a lot of her work is full of garbage and seems like she utilized the fact that 'Celtic' things are in. I hated the shapeshifter deck so much, which is also another one of D.J COnway's work. I just got it for the art work which was beautiful. Well, hope I was of good help. Good Luck.

    AWESEOME CELTIC DRAGONS!!

I was very impressed with these cards. I have delt with other cards before that from the moment i just looked at them I had a bad feeling about them (something evil). With the Celtic Dragon Tarot Cards I felt immediate peace with them and instantly bonded. I strongly recommend these cards to anyone and everyone interested in learning the art of Tarot. Blessed Be!

    Dragons are for real!

This is a very nice deck and accompaning book. The art work is nice and the cards are laminated which gives them a nice comfortable fell while handling them. I felt a bond in a very short period of holding them and reading the book. I have a much more powerful awareness with dragons because of this deck. It is a wise purchase and you won't be disappointed. -Blessed be

    What happen to the quality?

I bought this deck 10 years ago and loved it. I do readings on a daily basis. Last week I misplaced one of the cardsand I had to replace the deck with another. I was happy to see the package arrive, but when I pulled out the cards.

I was really really disappointed. The cardstock quality went way down. They are to thin and are hard to shuffle.

Even my son could feel the difference of the paper and thickness of the cards. My old set was a greyish background and these were white. I was not happy at all. I returned these so fast. I was really disappointed in the quality of them. For a beginner they are ok, but for someone who has been reading for years and reads alot, these cards won't last you a year. They look like they will tear and fold easily.

Writing parchment paper is thicker than this card stock.

If these were of the quality like my orginal set, it would have been great. The book also went down in quality as well. But to be honest I don't need the book.

I wish the quality was still there.

I am going to turn my house upside to find the missing card, even at 10 years old. They were still in perfect conditon, no tears or folds.

Tarot is not set in stone

The Celtic Dragon Tarot set is good deck.....for dragon fans and wiccans. Unfortunately I found it to be un-uniform as far as tarot goes. The author uses new-age idea's with her deck, such as candle spells being used with the deck. I do not find that tarot card are functional somatic components in witch-craft. Tarot cards are only meant to feed off of your spiritual energies to give you a neutral feed back and a few possible out comes for choices you make. So if your looking for authenticity- dont waste you time, but if your looking for aesthetically pleasing Tarot- go for it.

great for beginners, great for experts

This vivid tarot deck is wonderful to work with. The pictures have been well thought of and provide a great experience for all. Gives a different and in-depth perspective on dragons and is sure to brighten anyone's day. Great investment!

    Great deck, book lousy

Lovely scifi artwork make this a very usable deck. She does attribute Wands to Air and Swords to Fire which can be a problem for some people. The book was lame. Look at the pictures and create your own stories.

    Best Deck I've Used

I've been reading tarot cards for a few months. I had been addicted to the Crowley Thoth deck, until I saw this deck. I still use the Thoth deck for other people, but when I'm giving myself a reading, i always use this deck. I love this deck. I love dragons and have for a long time. This deck was just the cream of the crop to me.

    Powerful and Beautiful

This deck called to me from the instant I had it in my hands. The book was rich and informative, especially in describing the cards, although the actual divitory meanings were a tiny bit lacking. The images are absolutely stunning, however; each picture perfectly captures the idea behind the card. A great deck to learn on or to graduate to. ( And the aces are adorable!)

    THE CELTICS ARE MORE ACCURATE

I bought the Celtic Dragons Tarot about a year ago. I've been practicing how to read them (and create my own readings as well). These cards are very accurate to me. I'm still learning some more things about it, but so far, they've guided me through tough situations where I didn't know who to turn to.

    a deck for the mind

This deck was my first, and was given to me by a close friend. Although when i first got them i had no clue what the heck i was doing, i have now learned well from this deck. The includeded book is a great giude line for the deck, but the drawings are done so beautifly that the cards can speak for themselves. Although on some cards i cannot see the relationship between the drawings and the divinary meaning, that has not stopped me from loving this deck. I recently was looking for a new deck, but as i was using the Celtic Dragon more frequently i realized that this deck is what i want. No, the cards cannot be read in reverse, according to the creator, but that does not stop the cards from revealing insight into everyday life, and the cards are not the jealous sort either. the only problem i had with the cards was when i blessed them they seemed out of whack, but it probably was me because it was late at night. This deck is great for anyone, because everything about the cards is here for the beginner, but it is not dumbed down. there are new things you can learn everytime you look at these cards!

    WOW

I am a beginner at reading the cards myself but when i saw these cards i knew that had to learn. The cards are designed so that the meaning of them is very clear. I originally thought death meant death. When I looked at it and read the meaning i understood the illustration. Reading a card reversed can be helpful, but in my experience a reversed card will often get a negative reading. My first few readings were negative, but then as I read on they became positive. Also I don't know what it is but whenever I hold the cards I get this warm feeling inside. I was born in the year of the dragon and I always loved them. Maybe that is why bonded so quickly with the cards. Well thanks for giving me the chance to say what I think. Blessed be

    Awsome

I bought this tarot deck and I really enjoy it. The only thing that I don't like is the book only has one meaning for the cards, and does not have the reversed meaning for the cards when they are upside-down. But other than that, I love the book and deck.

    Great Deck

This deck is awesome! I have enjoyed it thoroughly and I would recommend it to all that are interested in Tarot or collect anything Dragons. The art alone is worth the price, but the deck really talked to me. The book was also very helpful, it gave full descriptions as well as brief ones (just in case you need to jog your memory). I have heard that the deck uses some different meanings, but they seem to go over well with me. The meditations described in the book were easy, and really opened a whole New World to me, as did the spells. The deck isn't always right, but most readings are accurate. This book and deck have captured my heart, soul, as well as my imagination. I hope you will enjoy it too.

beyond this point there be dragons

Excellent deck and book. Beautiful imagery on the cards with detailed desciptions in the text. A good choice for both psychic readers and/or collectors of all things dragon.
