Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
Machado, a Fulbright scholar and specialist in Mexican history, gives a solid, readable, sympathetic, and brief account of one of the country's premier heroes. In telling the life of Francisco ``Pancho'' Villa and his role in the revolutionary activity in the north, Machado helps dispel the myth of the cruel, droopy-mustachioed bandito so prevalent in American westerns. The biographer effectively captures the dynamism of the chaos and conflict in Mexico's revolution, the conflicting ideologies and dashed hopes, and the period's parade of characters and heroes. Presented here is a show that's hard to beat on any international stage. High marks for this fine book. Nicholas P. Cushner, Empire State Coll., SUNY, Buffalo
