Beautiful dancers, romance, and New York City -- "Center Stage" is a flick with all the makings of a modern girl's fairy tale -- the ultimate fantasy indulgence for any woman who has ever dreamed of being the prima ballerina, with all the inherent beauty and glamour it entails. The soundtrack, too, has an assortment of guilty pleasures; the first half of the tracks are swoony, girly pop tracks in the vein of the Spice Girls' catchy dance anthems, mostly performed by generic unknowns. The star of the soundtrack is Mandy Moore's "I Wanna Be with You," a breathy, heady ballad from Moore's 2000 album of the same name. But the real action kicks in on the second half of the soundtrack with older tracks, including Jamiroquai's disco-esque "Cosmic Girl"; the Red Hot Chili Peppers' bass-rockin' cover of the Stevie Wonder classic "Higher Ground"; Elvis Crespo and Gizelle D'Cole's merengue crowd-mover "Come Baby Come"; and Michael Jackson's sexy BAD-era funk track "The Way You Make You Feel." CENTER STAGE may never match the torrid and tailor-made dance movie soundtracks of, say, SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, but the ear-candy adds up to a mix-tape of sugary goodies -- and that, after all, is a breakfast of champions for all prima ballerinas.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
The original soundtrack to Center Stage, a musical drama about aspiring dance students, features songs by Jill Scott, Cyrena, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Michael Jackson. Mandy Moore's "I Wanna Be With You," Jamiroquai's "Canned Heat," International Five's "First Kiss," and Ruff Endz "If I Was the One" are some of the high points from this eclectic collection, which also includes songs by Elvis Crespo & Gizelle, P.Y.T., and Ashley Ballard.

A primo movie!! Fantastisch! Everyone see it! The music is great-I love ''Canned Heat'' and ''Cosmic Girl''. The dance that Jody does at the end in red is the best it gets. Wow!

this movie is so fantastic, and being a balletrina-teen i can deffinately relate. when the company came out, i went to see it, but it didnt have that kind of playfulness and dance moves that Center Stage has. i love it sooo much, and to this day its still my favorite movie.

The movie was awesome. It didn't get great reviews...but that is because there are already movies like 'Fame' and 'Flash Dance' and critics don't think this is a very original film. Some of the acting isn't that great either...but the dancing is amazing, the story is cute, and the guys are hott! The soundtrack is awesome (if you like pop music). Just watch the movie, buy the soundtrack, and we'll leave it at that. :o)

If you love the fast action and romance than you will love this move and you will watch it over and over again.

I have seen this movie on DVD many times (I own a copy), mainly for the dance sequences although the characters are very real. The music sucks you into the reality of the plot all the more. If you loved the movie, you'll love this album. If you haven't seen the movie but enjoy the ballet, you won't be disappointed.

I loved this movie!!! And Im not just saying that because I am a dancer there for someone who loves dance movies, But this was a REALLY good movie!

It was the best dance movie I've ever seen. I've always wanted to see a movie with that great of dancing in it but it never really came out. Thank god this did I've also read in magazines such as Dance Spirit that there will be some other movies about the dance world coming out one starring Julia Stiles. I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Center Stage is my favorite movie! The acting needed a little work but I definately think that the dancing made up for it. It was really fun to see professional dancing too. The guys were hot and I believe that it told the truth about what the dance world is really like.

This CD rocks! I love the cd and the movie. I also dance ballet which helped me understand everything that they did in the movie. Mandy Moore's ''I Wanna Be With You'' is terrific, and the rest of the music is great too.

I loved this movie. I watched it 3 times in a row. thats like 6 hours of dancing ! The movie was great and the soundtrack is awesome. I loved the songs and I danced along wit them. People say the acting isn't that great..HELLLOOO it's a dance movie , it's all about dancing not really acting. Duh! I do ballet and Modern myself so this was really captivating for me. And I know if I watched the movie and I never danced before in my life I'd want to sign up for lessons right after I watched Center Stage. I love the movie so much I think I'll go watch it now. C-ya!

I think Center Stage is a fantastic cd and has some of the most inspiration and talanted people seing e.g. P.y.T. We're Dancing, and it has a mixture of soothing and energetic voices all blending in with one and other that gives the movie center stage it's extra kick. Over all its sensational

I loved this movie. The dancing was excellent and watching in a theater was almost as good as watching it live. The passion and feeling was very strong from the dancers. It reminded me why I love dance and love to perform. The soundtrack went along perfectly with the dance scenes. It was a great variety.

As a ballerina myself, I definitely can relate to this movie, and the songs are amazing to practice to! Not only are they catchy, but it's one of those albums where you don't have to constantly have to pick up your remote so you can change it to the next track. It's a mesh of everything, 80's and today, slow and fast tempos. It's just a rare album that I think combines just the right stuff.
