The book that I will be telling you about is Centerfield Ballhawk. The author of the book is Matt Christopher. What I thought that was cool about the book is that Jose tried to raise his batting average to .375 like his dad and he never gave up. I also thought it was a good book because it is about baseball and I like baseball. It also always keeps you guessing. The main characters of the book are Jose, his dad, and Richie. The setting of the book is Jose's house, the batting cage, and the ball field. The book is about Jose being a good outfielder, but he isn't a good batter and he doesn't think his dad is proud of him. Jose wishes he could bat like Richie, but he can't. Jose also wants to reach his dad's batting average of .375. Jose likes to play pepper in his yard. One day he hit the ball too hard and broke the window of his neighbor's new car. He had to pay for a new window and he was grounded for two weeks and missed the next game. When Jose was grounded he went to the batting cage and practiced so he could get better. He accidentally fouled a ball off and bruised his cheek. He tried to cover it with his hand when he went home so his dad wouldn't see it. He forgot about it and took his hand away and his dad saw the bruise. He got in even more trouble since he wasn't supposed to go in the first place. What Jose likes to do is play baseball and be with friends. He also always wants to be better. Jose is a good kid overall and he doesn't get in trouble much. Jose doesn't really change much but he does start to understand that he is a good outfielder and his dad is proud of him. He does improve as a batter throughout the story. Jose, his dad and Richie are really important to the story because if you don't have players you can't play. Jose is also important to the book because it is about him progressing and without him there would not be a story. Manny the main character of The Roar of the Crowd is similar to Jose. They both try hard to be better at their sport. Manny is trying to be a better football player and Jose is trying to be a better baseball player. They are both small kids and they are both determined. I enjoyed this book because my favorite sport is baseball and it is about baseball. I liked every part of it. This book is unique because a boy about my age shows that you can make any change you want if you try hard and never give up. I don't think the author should have changed anything because it keeps you guessing and he proves a lot of things in the book. I would recommend this book to my friends because it is a good book about baseball and shows that you can improve with hard work.
