Description: This is the latest edition of Toole's classic textbook on stroke, first published in 1967 and now in its fifth edition.
Purpose: The author, who in his own words, was the first to write a textbook solely devoted to stroke seeks to review in detail the status of stroke from the viewpoint of a clinician actively involved in the care of stroke patients.
Audience: This book can be read with great value by neurology residents, medical students, neurologists, internists, and neurosurgeons who actively diagnose and manage stroke patients. The author writes lucidly and authoritatively on all aspects of stroke care.
Features: The author methodically reviews major areas of stroke diagnosis and management including transient ischemic attacks, brain infarction, cerebral embolism, stroke rehabilitation, aneurysms, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and venous thrombosis.
Assessment: This book is a delight to read. The workmanship of five revisions is obvious. The drawings are lucid and instructive. The writing is pithy, clear, and clever. The opinions are authoritative. The craftsmanship that has gone into the development of this book makes it a model for other authors. The author has created the fifth edition of a superb book. As readers, we can savor the fruits of his labor.
