Cesar Chavez: The Farm Workers' Best Friend

by Sneed B Collard

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Cesar Chavez was a poor man who began life as a hungry child. He came from a family of farm workers and saw his family lose their home because they could not afford it any longer. Chavez worked his entire life on a farm and was a victim of much racial tension and mistreatment. When Chavez realized the plight of many migrant farm workers, he realized that farm workers needed to form a union much like workers in other industries. He was one of the founders of the National Farm Workers Association and also helped many Hispanic workers become unionized. Collard's biography for young readers covers Chavez's life in understandable terms. Photographs of Chavez throughout his life are included. For students looking for a biography that is readable and contains accessible information for reports or reading for pleasure, this book is a valuable resource. It includes websites, books, and places to visit related to Chavez. Reviewer: Marcie Flinchum Atkins
