Overview

While many are familiar with the major works of Marc Chagall, an entire creative period of his amazing career has gone largely unnoticed, until now. Chagall: Love and the Stage focuses on Chagall's work during the eight years he spent in Russia during the First World War, the October Revolution and its aftermath.

In 1914 Marc Chagall had intended only a brief visit to Russia to visit friends and family. But, due to the outbrak of war, he was unable to return to Paris. Immersed again in the culture of his ancestors, he turned a bold new eye towards celebrating his family and his people.

During this time, Chagall witnessed a stunning transfromation of a nation. Chagall's work in these turbulent years culminated in the set of monumental murals he painted for the State Yiddish Theatre in Moscow.

Chagall: Love and the Stage is a beautiful book with over 60 color illustrations as well as three essays about his work.
