For Rachel, this was a solemn calling. And now her father, Darrell Scott, is carrying on her crusade by challenging people of all ages to commit themselves to creating a revolution of compassion that can make a real difference in our troubled world.
Chain Reaction spells out this challenge in compelling detail, providing moving examples of practical compassion and giving illustrations from Rachel's life and journals.

This book is a great guide for forgiveness and moving forward. In The Chain Reaction, by Darrell Scott, a father describes the message that his daughter left behind for the world. This message, that one simple act of kindness can inspire a chain reaction, is what gave Darrell meaning for moving on. Darrell feels that God's plan for his life is sharing his beloved daughter's philosophy. Some of the major themes or messages of this book are forgiveness, kindness, moving forward and the effects of your actions. I liked this book because of all the positivity that it entails. This book makes you really step back and decide what effect you want to have on the lives of others. It, in essence, provides you with a clean slate, or a fresh start. People should read this book if they are in need of a "life evaluation" or if they need to reevaluate their outlook on the simple thing. Overall, I think this book was a great tool to help me appreciate the little things and know that all things I do, little or small, can have any sort of affect on others. Was this review helpful? Rachel Scott was an incredible girl with brilliant ideas that she implemented in her life up until the moment she was killed at Columbine High school in 1999. This book, written by Rachel's father, is a reflection of the impact Rachel's life had on not only him, but everyone else around her as well. Darrell Scott, uses examples from his life, modern day life, and historical evidence to challenge the reader to create their very own chain reaction just as Rachel Scott did. He uses his daughter's life as a prime example of how a little drop of kindness can cause a ripple effect. Scott's main goal when writing the book was to use the tragedy in his life to inspire people to become more like Rachel and create their own legacy. His main goal is not to make the audience feel sorry for his loss, but rather take this loss and live a life that the reader can be proud of. Scott takes concrete examples and writings from Rachel's life and uses them as the guidelines which is one of the things I appreciated. Rather than only telling the reader what to do, Scott shows that it is truly possible through illustrating his daughter's life, morals, and actions. I also liked how Scott spoke to the reader like a good friend. I felt like I could relate to him even though I hadn't been through any of the things he had. This closeness made me deeply consider my own life and actions and the legacy I want to leave. I loved how this novel was both a reflection of Darrell Scott's life, but also a self reflection. The one thing about the book that can become frustrating is that Scott repeats numerous thoughts and main ideas. The reason for this is to continue to remind readers to consider their lives and become better people, but at times the repetitiveness can become distracting. When reading the sixth chapter, I could've sworn I just had read the same thing in the previous chapter. Although I was sidetracked at times by this, I still thoroughly enjoyed and became inspired by the book. Most of us need to examine our lives every once in a while to get back on track with what we are reaching for. I would strongly recommend this book for those of us who need a push to start back in the right and positive direction and also for those who want to make a change, but do not know how. This book is a guide to evaluate your life and do something with it. The only question that remains is: are you ready to start your own chain reaction? Was this review helpful? I had attended a seminar given by Rachels brother earlier this year. I was so moved by his story that I had to order this book to learn more. I was very happy with the book and was so inspired by the love and compassion that one child could have. I know that Rachel is looking down at us from Heaven. She is a true Angel. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I have read the book Chain Reaction and I have had the honor of hearing Darrell Scott speak. My life has never been so greatly affected by a family I have never met. Rachel Scott who was murdered along with 12 other wonderful people have had a huge impact on my life. I thank all the families and I thank you for this book. I appreciate the fact that you show Rachel to be a normal young lady with normal problems. But her compassion for others was not normal and I will continue her acts of kindness in loving memory of all who were taken from us that day in April! Was this review helpful?
