Ione’s second MoonBound Vampires paranormal (after Bound by Night) deftly uses a mixture of complex rivalries, primal violence, and sex to portray a society in which frequent vampire enslavement provokes a civil-rights dispute. Hunter, leader of the MoonBound Clan, needs help against vampire-hunters from nearby Seattle. His intended mate, Rasha, and her twin sister, Aylin, are sent to MoonBound by their father, the brutal leader of ShadowSpawn Clan, to see whether an alliance between MoonBound and ShadowSpawn is sustainable. Rasha, raised on mayhem as entertainment, thinks MoonBound is weak—Hunter allows human hobbies, like video games. But Aylin, a lifelong outsider because of a birth defect, finds hope in Hunter and MoonBound, although the Clans will go to war if Hunter mates with the wrong twin. Together, Aylin and Hunter must balance responsibility with desire in the face of increasing human trouble, inter-Clan espionage, and their own vampiric natures. Ione’s characters are relatable and sympathetic both because of and despite their id-drenched setting, and Ione’s flavor of vampirism produces a fascinating mixture of authoritarianism, atavism, and compassionate humanity that works on multiple levels. After agreeing to wed a rival's daughter to form an alliance, Hunter, a vampire clan leader, must break an ancient curse while facing his misgivings about the other clan, his aversion to his would-be mate and his blazing attraction to her twin sister. After agreeing to marry Rasha, the firstborn daughter of the ShadowSpawn vampire clan, Hunter, the leader of the MoonBound clan, has immediate second thoughts. He's always known that ShadowSpawn follow a heavy-handed and sometimes-cruel code of conduct known as the Way of the Raven, but he's shocked by Kars' brutal and despotic leadership, and the more he learns about ShadowSpawn's harsh treatment of Rasha's twin sister, Aylin, the more he despises the man. However, the vampire race is in peril, and creating alliances seems crucial to survival. Ever since humans discovered the existence of vampires, they have enslaved them and experimented on them, and hostilities are escalating. In theory, a match between Hunter and Rasha makes sense, but when the betrothal is announced and Rasha refuses to go through a series of expected trials, Hunter becomes more uneasy. Aylin, despised by her own clan for her physical weakness and gentle nature, steps up to the task and, during the quest, finds powers she never knew she had, suddenly becoming a valuable commodity. To Hunter, she's become much more than that, and he will do everything in his power to protect her and find a way to marry her, preferably without causing war among the clans, while also doing all he can to keep vampires safe. Ione has created a fascinating vampire world steeped in Native American traditions and lore and developed a path to happiness for Hunter and Aylin that is fraught with potent and poignant internal and external conflicts. The action-packed plot and creative worldbuilding keep us enthralled; the romance and sexual tension keep us emotionally invested.

Hunter is set to mate with a rival clan members daughter. He will do it to keep peace and try to keep his clan safe. He has to also break an ancient curse few know about to save his future children. he will need help to do so. Hunter doesn't expect his intended mate to not want to save their future children but her twin steps up to help out. The girls are totally different and this twin cares. Now Hunter not only has to face the challenge but also face the fact he is falling for the twin he can't have. He will face a war if he doesn't mate with the right twin and many of the vampires in his clan may die. He will have to decide what is really important and what is worth the risk.

Hunter is a great leader. He has to make many decisions for the better of the clan that some see as harsh. He has had a bad past and he has made sure to make his clan different from the one he was raised in. He wants his vampires to be happy. I really enjoyed getting to see different sides of him. Rasha is his mate to be and I have to say I hate her so much. She is a truly evil woman who will do whatever to get what she wants and doesn't have any problem using people to get what she wants. She looks down on most and hates the way Hinter does everything. Aylin is Rasha's twin and is for sure the better of the two. She is caring, sweet yet can be tough when it is needed. She has been looked down on and treated horrible her whole life. I was glad to see her come out of her shell with Hunter and his clan. She truly becomes a great woman in a place she can open up in without fear of being hurt.

The first book was wonderful and I couldn't wait to read this one. It did not disappoint me at all. I love getting to see more of the clans and how they each are run. You also see more about how they came to be with Hunter's story. I like how Hunter may seem hard but he is also one who makes sure his vampires have down time to let go. He also makes sure they have training as he knows they have to stay on their toes. There is lots of different kinds of action in this book. From the test he has to face to hunters after the vampires to rival clans. Aylin is a great addition to the story. She is someone always considered weak but she shows just how strong she can be. her and Hunter are a great match even when they know they shouldn't be together. They try to deny what is between them. Rasha I have to say I kept hoping she would get her butt kicked as she clearly needs it. There is plenty of characters I hope to see more of as this is a fantastic series so far. I really can't wait for more. If you are looking for a new amazing paranormal romance series I would say pick this one up.

Chained by Night, Book 2 of The MoonBound Clan Vampire, by Laris

Chained by Night, Book 2 of The MoonBound Clan Vampire, by Larissa Ione follows Hunter, a vampire clan leader, as he has promised to marry Rasha Redmoon, the daughter of another clan leader, so that their clans can have a bond and not start war. The only problem is that Hunter hates Rasha and finds her sister’s, Aylin, company a lot more enjoyable. Aylin, though, has been promised to another clan leader, one that doesn’t treat anyone kindly and Hunter knows she will be abused. Through twists and turns, Hunter finds himself getting closer to Aylin as they go another dimension to prove their strength and not have to sacrifice his firstborn to the demon Samnult, they grow even closer. The clan leaders don’t like Hunter trying to take Aylin away from them, but he knows he must follow his heart, no matter the cost.

This book was enjoyable, full of mystery and surprises, and it was hard to put down. I really enjoyed Aylin and found her to be a strong character by the end of the story. I loved her development through the story and how she learned to stand up for herself. She reminded me a bit of Gomora from Guardians of the Galaxy, having to do what her leader says all the time until she finally stood up for herself and helped the enemy, which would have been Hunter’s clan in this book.

As for Hunter, I liked him a lot more in this book than the first. I don’t know if it was because I got to know him more than just a leader or if it was something else, but I found him a lot more interesting. I usually don’t care for the good guy leader type, but this story had me captivated. He reminded me a bit of Charming in the end, trying to appease those in charge but ending up standing up for love instead.

Some things I didn’t care for in the writing style was that the author sometimes switched character viewpoints to one character and then never came back to them just so she could get information across. I prefer a story that stays to certain characters throughout the entire novel, otherwise it feels broken and disconnected. At first I didn’t like how it had completely switched the focus on a different set of characters compared to the first book, but after a while I realized the author wanted to tell a new story, not expand on the last. The characters were still there, but they were in the background.

Lastly, I found it odd that in the first book, the vampires seemed more scientific, that it was more a virus that no one knew how started and didn’t seem to have the supernatural element, but in this book, the supernatural element was played up a lot more with traveling to another dimension and Samnult being a demon and such. I found this to disconnect the stories and wished it was either mixed better, or either a scientific or a supernatural approach was taken.

All in all, I really enjoyed the story and can’t wait for the next book in the series. It is full of action and romance and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I give it a 3.8/5!

Chained by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampires #2) by Larissa Ione

Hunter, the Leader of the vampire clan MoonBound, has agreed to an arranged mating to a rival clan, ShadowSpawn, leader's daughter, Rasha, to gain allies in an impending war. However, he is more attracted to her identical twin sister, Aylin.

Hunter is a great leader and hero. I love that he likes Monty Python. Needless to say he has a great personality. He is a good man who protects his family and people. He is selfless, having no issue making sacrifices for those in his care.

I love Aylin. She has been treated poorly by her clan due to being crippled. She is strong and has a big heart. Considering how she has been treated, she has a great outlook and personality.

Rasha, well…let’s just say that she is the complete opposite of her twin, Aylin. I don’t really have anything nice to say about her. She does make a good antagonist.

Samnult is an interesting demon/god. The bickering between Sam and Hunter was entertaining. Heck, I love the conversations in the entire story, both verbal and internal. There are some very humorous comments made throughout the book, which kept me laughing.

Larissa Ione did a phenomenal job with every aspect of this novel. The plot is well-thought-out. There are tons of action and suspense. The characters are well developed. Plus, the details that went into Chained by Night are admirable.

Complimentary copy provided by author in exchange for an honest review.

I was looking forward to reading CHAINED BY NIGHT after reading

I was looking forward to reading CHAINED BY NIGHT after reading BOUND BY NIGHT, the first in the MoonBound Clan Vampire series, and I wasn’t disappointed. I was excited to read Hunter’s story and see the evolution of the complex mythology the author has painstakingly created. Hunter agreed to take Rasha, the heir to the ShadowSpawn clan, as his mate after the events in BOUND BY NIGHT. Rasha and her twin sister, Aylin, come to MoonBound but are attacked on the way. Hunter first mistakes Aylin for Rasha when they’re rescued, but then it becomes easy to tell them apart. Aylin is kind, humble, and been horribly abused by her clan while Rasha is cruel, rude, and sadistic. Hunter finds himself drawn to Aylin, even with his promised betrothal and mating upcoming. When a demon requires Hunter to go through a quest with his mate in order to save his first born child, Rasha refuses, but Aylin steps up and takes her place. CHAINED BY NIGHT is a solid novel which adds a lot to the world of the MoonBound Clan Vampire series. I enjoyed the characters, especially Aylin, who turned out to be so much more than anyone ever thought. I am looking forward to delving deeper into this world in the future.

Loved it! Larissa Ione has always been one of my favorite autho

Loved it! Larissa Ione has always been one of my favorite authors and I have been reading the Demonica books for years! I am always excited when an author starts a new series with new characters and I am also always a little worried they won't be able to live up to my expectations when they were so successful in building their other worlds. Ms. Ione pulled it off! This is the 2nd in the series and is a great transition from the first book. Many of the same characters from the first book are brought back and their personalities are filled in, however, it can definitely be read as a stand alone if you haven't yet read the first book. It has a great male lead who offers just the right amount of past anguish and strength of character. You are offered up a heroine again introduced in the first book who becomes just the right fit. Many of the other reviews offer details into the plot, so I won't do that. I 'll just say I really enjoyed this one and can't wait for the next one, and the next one and the next one - because there are so many great characters that need their own book!

    Addicting, addicting, addicting!

Larissa Ione does it again. Story was hot, highly interesting and I love that the imperfect under dog plays a key roll. Love the play of previous main characters, it brings everything home, full circle. Love the modern played with Native American lore. Story builds to a point you can't imagine anything different.
    A MUST read series!!

~Reviewed by FRANCESCA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog

When I read the first book in this series I remember thinking that it was a good story and the plot of the series was really intriguing, but it left me wanting a bit more. So I was both excited and scared to go into this one. I wanted this one to live up to the potential of this series! But I was scared to have high expectations. I shouldn’t have worried. Larissa made me happy, once again!

Even though this didn’t have the level of sexual intensity, I guess, that I’ve come to expect with Larissa’s stories, that didn’t take away from the fact that these two were hot and sensual together. There’s something about Hunter that even though he’s a vampire it makes me see him as a shifter. There’s a rawness about him. A loyalty to his clan. The power that surrounds his persona. I found him alluring and intoxicating. There’s no need for bad boys when you can get one good to the bone but that will tear to shreds anyone that dares touch what’s his.
When we left off book one, Hunter had agreed to take on a mate from another clan to help rescue one of his own and his mate. Now as he receives his future mate in his home, he realizes he has a deep connection to her twin sister. Good and evil, Rasha and Aylin are polar opposites. One has had everything she’s wanted her whole life, growing up bloodthirsty and with all the power given to her by being the daughter of the head of the clan. But Aylin has only faced hardships. Being born with a disfigurement, and walking with a limp, she’s seen as less than everyone else in her clan, always made aware of her place in the food chain. She’s always known not to wish for things she couldn’t have. But she’s also always had a brave and good heart.
Aylin and Hunter were truly perfect for each other. I loved seeing their attraction grow from an easy friendship to a combustible love. CHAINED BY NIGHT was a sweet and sexy ride, full of action and adventure. The kind that you want to go back to almost as soon as you’ve had to put the book down. The forbidden love story, that shows us that true love can conquer anything and they will face whatever obstacles they have to and be together. This book reminded me why I fell in love with paranormal romance in the first place. Books and stories like this. We don’t need the sex acrobatics or a crazy twist. Just a solid romance that draws on everything alpha about a paranormal hero and takes us on an entertaining ride. And entertained I was. I can’t wait for more from these vampires!

I won an advanced copy of this book through a Goodreads contest.

I won an advanced copy of this book through a Goodreads contest. I pretty much started reading it the same day that I finally received the copy. Sadly work got in my way and I was forced to put the book down while I actually earned the green to pay for my shoe and book habits.

Is this a standalone book? Although this is book two in a series (I am hoping a long series, but I haven't done any digging to see how many books may be planned), I think that a person could get away with not having read the first. However, by skipping the first book, a person is going to be missing a lot of the world-building that was done. Plus, let's face it, you'll miss the yummy Riker's story. I recommend reading book one before starting this one.

What do I like best about this world? Although I've read many different books with vampires, I think this one is unique in its spin. The vampires aren't sparkly- they're great warriors, and their origins are completely different for me. The women in the books are not excessively stupid. And I'm intrigued, I want to know more. I want to find out 'whodunit' (sorry, won't give a spoiler and actually say specifically what I'm referring to- even though I really want to!)

Would I recommend this book (and series)? Yes, I would definitely recommend the book to those who like a good paranormal romance. And yes, to the series as well.

Do I plan on reading the remaining books in the series? YES! I can't wait for the next book. I was just sitting here thinking - whose story would I like to read next. And the name that most comes to mind is Myne. I can't wait to read his story.
