Challenger: Roleplaying Game Core Rules [NOOK Book]

Overview

A new Challenger is here...

This is a pen and paper tabletop roleplaying game, not a computer game. If you're looking for one of those, I'm afraid you'll have to look elsewhere. I highly recommend the dungeon-crawling German rogue-like "Lost Labyrinth" which is free to download and a purely awesome game.

If you're interested in the RPG, you've come to the right place.

    This is a d&d game,

This book is a classic rpg. Its not a video game, lol. Games like this involve a lot of imagination. Simply follow the rules and maybe a few house rules for beginners. A DM (duegon master) using the theme in the book, creates adventures for players. The players create a character using the books character creation rules and then plays threw the adventure the DM has created or found in the book or online.

The DM must follow rules so people dont cheat or make it unfair for new players. Also this means if your character dies, you must make a new one. Plz remember that, also you must understand that a player can do almost anything humanly possible in the century or theme involved. Creating weapons or even creating a spaceship as long as the era and crafting rules are legit.

You could make a star wars themed rpg or you could make a final fantasy themed game, this book simply has its own era and theme so a beginner should play this to learn. Remember imagination and free will is a key playing factor for players.

    Awesome!

This is a CLASSIC roleplay. It's very similar to DnD. With the orignal classes this book offers, it is very fun! On top of that, it's free!

    Its a book.....for a game.

This is a BOOK describing how to play a rpg style game. Think of all of those online RPGs and take away the computer. Place a person in as a moderator that says what happens, creates scenarios, etc. It is the kinda game you get some other friends and have fun with. When you get the right friends it will be a laugh out loud, fun time to come up with the werdest junk and have fun with what you think of.

    Poorly written.

Reads as though you are talking to a 15 year old. Some entries incomplete or unclear.

    Content could be improved

As a seasoned role player, I'm not sure I would play this game. The rules seem unbalanced (in the favor of the player) and it looks like this game was developed as a result of someone having a bad experience with a GM. Not all GMs "railroad" (force the players to follow their story). The examples provided in the first chapter make the players look like they are on a power trip (getting an item instead of damage because you argued with the GM is ridiculous!). I appreciate the rules about the player dying once they hit 0hp, even if I prefer the -10 rule, but the creators would have a much stronger game if they had more faith in the GMs. The power rules are interesting, but, in all, I think this game should be revised. The writing itself, I think, explains the termonology fairly well.
