Jack Kirby proves once again why he was the King of comics. Created prior to his Marvel Age work with Stan Lee, Jack created the Challengers of the Unknown a interesting mix of Monster genre, sci-fi and adventuring that instils a small window of his deep imagination. Fans of the Fantastic Four, good comics and Jack Kirby should pick up this book. Not a super-hero book that the lead characters wear tights, but has that heroic style and just classic story-telling.

These stories are classic in that they provide a ton of ideas and imagination in very short stories. These stories don't dwell on all the possible ramifications but fnatastically set your mind to considering them yourself. I loved these as a kid and both of my sons love them now.

I have the NOOK version, and it lacks nothing. It looks great on the Nook. But besides that, this Kirby edition of Challengers of the Unknown is nothing but fantastic. It shows Kirby's imagination, and the artwork is like a Kirby primer. There were very few people better at depicting action than Kirby, and no one (besides, maybe, Steve Ditko) could portray strange worlds and alien beings better. This is the good stuff, straight up. This Challengers collection gets a 5 star from me, and I don't give those out a lot.
